1 tent.
3 days.
25 speakers.
1050 minutes of interviews.

And one fantastic Garden Theatre at the second ever Rutland Flower Show!

Thank you to all the speakers at this year’s show. It was a total honour to host all three days, interviewing and talking with so many passionate people in the gardening world.

There was so much to see at the show - including some great gardens and good shopping - but I was in the tent for three days with all the speakers. And with the fantastic crew who made it all possible (Will, Stu, Estelle and Adam).

Thanks everyone and here’s to next year!

This week at Keythorpe // 20.07.26

This week we travelled back in time to Regency England.

At Keythorpe, the prep is always half the story. The unseen lead up to guests arriving- and this week, as always, it was a full team mission.

The dining room underwent huge transformation, using the finest of what is blooming in the walled garden at the moment.

Our guests were treated to a full Regency surprise that none of them saw coming. Dramatic games of croquet to rival the football, historical and social dance classes, and mixology masterclasses. All with world class experts and seamlessly woven through the day.

Nettles aren’t nasty. Medical herbalist Jody Knapp @dontsettlepetal tells us about the benefits of nettles as well as delicious nettle pesto recipe. Pick up a copy of the magazine locally or read online theactivemag.com

It’s safe to say that my £25 charity shop camera purchase works like a dream and my gorgeous shoot with @dontsettlepetal is now immortalised on 35mm.

Thanks to @comethroughlab for the speedy turn around, it was the perfect way to end the week.

I got to hang out with @dontsettlepetal today so I could test out a new film camera and after going through some of the digital files I am keeping everything crossed that my little charity shop find comes good because BAM! These images on 35mm will be even more beautiful!
Thanks to Jody for being her true self and at one with nature today, an afternoon of creativity in the sun with a medical herbalist has miraculous healing powers xx

Jody visits TJ in her garden, bringing a herbal tea and leaving a garden bouquet. A wild garden with mown paths through fruit trees, long grass and wildflowers, old roses and shrubs. Imperfectly perfect!

We spend time in the herb border and uncover a fledgling! Jody picks foliage and flowers to create a seasonal bouquet - one of the highlights of this time of year. TJ does very little.

No cake again, nor any ice cream.

Our next instalment will be a summer one, covering June, July and August.

April and we met at the studio where we could refer to books. There was no tea or snacks.

Jody introduced 3 plants used in herbal medicine and TJ used them to illustrate how the form of a plant influences energy in planting design.

Crataegus and Rosa from the same family - and a lovely reference to the emotional restoration properties of Rose. Alchemilla and its original uses in skin care.

And Verbascum and Valerian thrown in to show how energetic shapes balance calming shapes.

March is a great month for looking at the design elements in a garden before leaf cover begins to increase. And it gave us the opportunity to visit Mum with the knowledge that she would make cake…

In her garden, where she has lived for over 30yrs, we look at how she uses layering to balance the scale of large mature trees.

Spring shrubs and early flowering perennials, a huge Christmas tree we planted as children, and mum’s Victoria Sponge vs Auntie Di’s all feature.

And we got a photo together for Mother’s Day.

A beautiful February day to take a look in the hedgerows for signs of the first wild herbs of Spring. A slow start to the growing year, but we succeeded and made a hot infusion.

A bit of design talk about the value of planting at human scale, plus singing the benefits of blackthorn for nesting birds.

Aside from the useful snippets, we have fun/competitive sisterly moments about who can run fastest and who has the best stick. Jody also shows off one of her ‘vintage Wilko’ possessions.

Next month, we take a trip out to a proper garden.

January

As sisters whose lives and work revolve around plants, we are sharing with you over the coming year a monthly snippet that brings together herbal medicine, garden design, floristry and horticulture.

Join us as we go through the ebbs and flows of the seasonal calendar.

We are also good at going off-topic so you can watch more via the link in our bios where we talk about brunch, perfume, cheese, antiques and Blur. There’s a good episode’s worth of this general chat interspersed with the odd bit of useful information about plants. It’s proper Sunday morning listening.

Jody mixes us a warming tea and talks the medical uses of Mahonia aquifolium.
TJ creates a winter container from what looks good in the garden.
We both try a local Plum Pudding, being generous with the butter. Naturally.

Next month we are outside in the hedgerows for February. #sisters #seasonal #january
