Donut is a Detroit-based design studio founded by long-time friends and collaborators Ian Klipa and Jake Saphier. Keeping in the tradition of their region’s design and manufacturing heritage, they utilize the tools, and techniques of industry to create joyful furnishings. The studio celebrates the confluence of traditional fabrication as well as the efficiencies of modern technologies such as CNC cutting and forming. This approach allows Donut to create highly functional contemporary furnishings and accessories with time-honored materials and processes. All of Donut’s work is handcrafted from scratch in Detroit.

“Keep your book close and your drink closer with the Eclipse Side Table —a one-cup side table with an eccentrically swiveling top for when you need just a little extra space to rest things.

This little curiosity is built entirely from formed and welded steel and is ready to serve for years to come. So go on, add a little personality to your place and never get called the “”boring friend”” again.”

Our Detroit design community showed UP for the fabrication-focused spotlight on functional 3D design! We highlighted some of our city’s best makers, learned about architectural millwork & collectively marveled at the scale of our host’s state of the art HVAC system (IYKYK). Thanks to all of the designers, creatives, friends & fabricators for showing up & showing out! Detroit creatives are next level.
🗓️
See you on June 5 at @detroithistorical for the next one!
