Celebrating 50 years of Failte in the Burren, Aillwee Burren Experience is an iconic attraction that was developed out of community spirit, ambition, innovation and bravery! The anniversary of its opening in 1976 has had people from all over the region reminiscing and telling stories that connect them to Aillwee over the past 5 decades. Best of luck to Nuala and the team, proud members of the Burren Ecotourism Network. Here's to the next 50!!

A varied and vibrant day celebrating @doolincave ‘s 20th anniversary and the opening of their new Sculpture Trail in collaboration with the Limerick School of Art and Design. The cave exists as a fascinating intersection between myth, place, history, creativity, entrepreneurship and folklore and the talks and performances reflected all of that. Extracts from the Leabhar Stiofain Ui Ealaoire, a collection of oral history stories from Doolin written down 100 years ago, were performed. The relationship between place and myth was discussed, as well as the Jungian symbolism of caves. The space itself was brought to life with an audio-visual performance, colour and sound exploding deep within the earth and under Europe’s largest stalactite while local crafters shared their creations aboveground, including pottery made from the clay of the cave. All of this variety was held in cohesion by the founders Helen and John Browne as well as the staff, but also by the gravity of the cave itself.
To quote Geralt, ‘Place of power, it’s gotta be.’

There’s so much that I learned about love and life in Ireland. And being able to step out of my shell some. Going into Ireland I went in with a sense of adventure, exploration, and looking for brave new horizons but I left Ireland feeling like I was at home. There’s something special about being filled with peace and a renewed sense of creativity.

Beyond all that, I also learned why people were afraid to blow away in children’s books if you need a good laugh.

Would you travel to Ireland?

XOXO
Michelle
