For our upcoming School Mental Health Outreach, MIHRA is pleased to be working with @doracarefoundation to provide students with free copies of Dora-Care’s mental health handbooks.

The handbooks will form part of the resources shared during the outreach, giving students something practical they can take away and continue learning from beyond the conversations on the day.

We appreciate Dora-Care for supporting this initiative and helping us extend mental health education to more young people.

📅 30 October 2026
📍 University of Calabar International Demonstration Secondary School, Calabar

Together, we’re creating more opportunities for young people to learn, speak openly, and access helpful mental health information.

The Dora-Care Behavioral Foundation is set to launch the Mental Health First Aid Handbook: A Practical Guide for Supporting Children & Teenagers, the first handbook of its kind in Nigeria, aimed at improving mental health literacy and promoting early intervention for children and adolescents.

The initiative is led by Feyikemi Akinyelure, Founder of the Dora-Care Behavioral Foundation and former Head of the Occupational Therapy Department at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba. Drawing on her clinical experience, the handbook provides practical guidance for parents, teachers, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to identify and respond to children’s mental health challenges before they escalate.

The launch will feature an international panel of experts, including Bethan Jeffers (United Kingdom), who will discuss building resilience and life skills in young people; Rinila Haridas (Canada), who will highlight the importance of integrating mental health into public health systems and community support; and Odedoyin Yusuf (United States), who will share clinical insights on occupational therapy’s role in improving children’s emotional wellbeing and daily functioning.

Bringing together perspectives from advocacy, education, public health, and clinical practice, the event aims to foster global collaboration while promoting practical, culturally relevant solutions for supporting children’s mental wellbeing. More than a book launch, it serves as a call for parents, educators, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and communities to work together in ensuring every child receives the care, understanding, and support they need.

Leadership takes many forms. It can look like planting trees to heal a forest, creating jobs that restore dignity, or building spaces where care and compassion come first.

In this latest edition of our Substack, 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, we share reflections from Mountaintop Fellows and Community Champions who lead with courage and compassion.

From Indonesia to DRC, from India to Nigeria, their journeys remind us that real leadership is shaped by everyday actions that uplift others.

At the beginning of this year, we began building the Mountaintop Global Community with one belief: 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞.

To bring this to life, we launched the Community Champions Program — a shared leadership journey for engaged members of our community to step forward and help shape its future. Following an immersive one-week bootcamp, our Champions will lead the way in designing community rituals, facilitating peer-driven activities, and fostering a culture rooted in trust, care, and shared purpose.

We are proud to introduce the first cohort of 20 Community Champions across 7 countries — each bringing their unique voice and vision to strengthen the bonds that hold our global network together.

Follow along as they lead this journey — and stay tuned for how you, too, can join our global community of changemakers and become a future Community Champion.

Today, I was opportune to be a volunteer for " Walk for Mental Health" by @doracarefoundation and I am glad to be a part of this.

Mental Health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being that most people often neglect.

Just so you know, Mental Health goes beyond the absence of mental disorders. Instead, it encompasses emotional intelligence, effective stress management and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.

Some say because they haven't been diagnosed of having mental disorders like depression, Schizophrenia etc. Hence, they are mentally healthy, Just so you know, people don't just end up with depression or commit suicide.....It definitely started from somewhere!

You begin to neglect your mental health when:
📌You don't prioritize yourself.
📌You have issues asking for help.
📌You don't set boundaries.
📌You surround yourself with negative energy.
📌You resort to taking hard drugs as an escape route from all the challenges life throws at you.

What you don't know is, all of these have a way of disrupting your mind, your thought process and overall well being.

Henceforth, your mental health should be your priority, speak up if the need be, say No to hard drugs and prioritize self-care.
