$MEDIUM TOTAL 1969 by Günther Domenig & Eilfried Huth From @fraccentre description In this installation, shown at the Galerie Nächst St. Stephan in Vienna in 1970, and which they describe as a "utopian project", Huth and Domenig borrow from cybernetic theory and transform architecture into a mutant biological organism. Inhabited by the "suprahominids of the future", Medium Total is a cell membrane that adapts to its environment, by modifying and evolving: it expands or shrinks, becomes denser or wilts, sometimes to the point of formation of new autonomous colonies. Medium Total operates as a network traversed by multiple information flows: each "cell" acts and reacts according to interactions maintained locally or globally with the matrix, which in return processes each information in order to self-regulate. The more active the “cells”, the more Medium Total will develop. With this "biotechnological" proposal, Huth and Domenig imagine the future that Medium Total has in store for humanity. #radicalarchitecture #güntherdomenig #eilfriedhuth$
