Ljubljana dump – green dragons, linden trees, funky wines and hands down some of the best readers (and journalists) I’ve ever met. Anyone should be so lucky as to experience this gem of a country and culture. Thank you @mladinskaknjiga, @omerzelb, @cankarjevdom, @schnabl_ana, @larapaukovic, @traduki and everyone else who made this possible. A piece of my heart remains with you now, which means this is the first of many meetings. 🤍💙

My 4th portrait for Mladina. 📸

This time, a night walk with @gregorandolsek—A fantastic Slovenian actor, film director, and member of caoportoroz—around the train station next to Tivoli Park.

Henri Cartier-Bresson once said that portraiture is about placing the camera somewhere between a person’s skin and their shirt.

I keep thinking about this sentence.

Gregor showed up with two pairs of sunglasses, a leather coat, and binoculars.

We walked, talked, paused, and somehow found a rhythm.

During the session, I try not to direct too much. I watch, I listen, I respond—trying to understand something that is not spoken.

Maybe that’s the only way I know how to work: to become “invisible.”

There is always a moment when something shifts—when the person in front of the camera stops performing, and simply stays. That moment is very quiet, and yet very strong.

I feel like I’m just there to witness it.

This series keeps reminding me—every person carries a different world. And I don’t have any reason to force my way into it.

You have to be invited. And you have to learn how to listen.

It’s portrait Friday again!🔥

And it’s my second portrait for the Kultura column of @mladina_tednik 📸

This time, I met a young poet, musician, and graphic designer from @mosticek_kolektiv — Gal Grobovšek, whose debut poetry collection Džez pank was published in 2024.

Thanks to Mladina’s invitation for these five portraits, I decided to approach the portrait series a bit differently.

Instead of arranging a formal “photo shoot,” I prefer to visit each person in a place where they feel comfortable—according to their schedule, not mine—and, if possible, spend a bit more time together, listening to their stories. And “along the way,” I photograph them. 🙂

It seems we all really enjoyed this more spontaneous process. This time, I also invited Gal to write something directly on the photograph, taken in their rehearsal room in a former bunker in Kranj.

“I usually make notes or write things on my phone,” he said.

Great—so why not?

I sent him the final image, and I was genuinely amazed by his interpretation through his handwriting ✍️

It’s always fascinating to see how creativity can multiply through collaboration. A photograph can suddenly become a carrier of stories, gaining new layers of narrative directly from the person in the image.

For me, a portrait is never just about how a person looks—their voice is the true “secret ingredient.”

You simply sit back, listen to those intriguing stories, and let them unfold within a frame, in a split second—I enjoy it tremendously ✨

Many thanks once again for the invitation, @mladina_tednik & @vanjapirc, and for the kind assistance from @doratrcek 🙏

Stay tuned!

It’s truly an honour to take over the Kultura / Portret section of @mladina_tednik —my favourite magazine, and honestly one of my favourite columns here in Slovenia at the moment (until April).

It has been such a blessing to meet all these incredible people—beautiful souls and creative minds—whether backstage, in rehearsal rooms, or simply face to face, listening to their thoughts and personal stories.

I’ve been enjoying this experience immensely, and it’s also been a precious opportunity to learn and grow 🙏
A heartfelt thank you to @vanjapirc, @doratrcek & Borut Krajnc for the invitation, your trust, and your generous support! 🫶

And of course, thank you all for your patience with my many requests, and for so generously sharing your time during our portrait sessions. 🤍

Even though Slovenia is a small country under the Alps, the artists here—actors, filmmakers, writers, musicians, designers, drag artists, and so many others—are truly inspiring.

There is something very powerful in this space: a freedom of expression and a respect for each individual voice.

Respecting differences, appreciating them, and learning from them—for me, this is what makes a country like Slovenia, my second home, truly lovable.

Let’s not take that for granted—if you’re voting this weekend, please go vote. 🗳️✨
