What an amazing campaign of the Irish Kendo Team in the 33rd European Kendo Championships, in Leiden, The Netherlands!
It was truly impressive to witness such display of commitment, bravery and camaraderie by an incredible bunch of people that is the Irish Team.
I am deeply grateful and honoured to have been part of this journey!
Now, it is time to enjoy the great memories from these championships and start preparing for the next ones in Montenegro, in 2026! EIRE ABÚ!! #ekc2025 #33ekc #kendo All photos used with permission of authors.

A team that throws wellies together, stays together.

It’s that time of year again and the Irish squad has been working hard in preparation for the upcoming European Kendo Championships in Leiden, the Netherlands.

But it’s not all kendo— after the final team training, the team had some fun doing a few challenges in the park (gotta keep that competitive edge, you know?). Swipe to see the team up to a whole host of shenanigans!

Ireland isn’t particularly well-known for warm and sunny days, but we do get them every once in a while! 🌞 Which is why these happy (and surprised?) kendoka took the chance to go on a hike together. Can we agree to calling it a cardio workout? 🏃

We’re extremely proud to congratulate long-time Dublin Kendo Kobukai members John Doherty Sensei (6th dan) and Raul Fernandez (5th dan) for having recently passed their grading examinations at the World Kendo Championships in Milan! This is an important milestone and an incredible achievement for both, especially considering they also competed at the WKC as members of the Irish National Kendo Team! Please join us in congratulating them on this occasion.

The Irish National Kendo Team participated in the 19th World Kendo Championships that took place in Milan on 4-7 July 2024. We’re incredibly grateful to the coaches, officials, and athletes who represented Ireland on the world stage. The effort and passion you’ve put into preparation over the last year, and the grit you’ve shown during every single match at the championships, have made us all very proud to be able to shout “Éire Abú” with you!

We’re also very proud of our fellow Dublin Kendo Kobukai members who represented other nations at the WKC—you’re living proof that kendo knows no boundaries:
