POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I am still processing the weight of this moment. Not the weight of the hood around my shoulders, but of everything—and everyone—it carries.
I come from pioneers. From matriarchs. From Black and Indigenous excellence that existed long before my name ever had “Dr.” in front of it. I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors. Their stories do not end with me.
I am their continuation.
Then my dad placed the doctoral hood over my shoulders.
His hands. My shoulders. Our family’s history between us.
I did this for them. And I did this for me.
For the little girl with paint on her hands and impossible things in her head, who decided she would be a professional artist and a doctor. Not one or the other. Both.
I made her a promise. We kept it. 🤎
And God, did we fight for it.
This journey was the opposite of easy. There were moments when I couldn’t see the next step and continuing asked more of me than I knew I had left to give.
I learned to trust myself. To use my voice. To stand my ground. To refuse to shrink.
Perseverance isn’t always graceful. Sometimes it is loud. Sometimes it costs you something. Sometimes it is simply waking up and continuing anyway.
So I continued.
Until one day, I walked across a stage.
And I am so proud of myself.
There is so much joy here.
Team 19 — and yes, Jay, always. Unwavering support, ridiculous laughter, Airbnbs, and side quests. My Boston crew, who made a new city feel like home. You made room for joy.
To Dr. C, and the faculty and mentors who saw me, heard me, believed me, and stood beside me: thank you. I carry your kindness with me.
So… a hood around my shoulders. My father’s hands behind me. My family in front of me. Nana and Noni with me. My ancestors at my back. Little me somewhere inside.
And it felt sacred.
Somewhere along the way, imagination became memory.
I am proud of the little girl who dreamed it and the woman who refused to stop until she got here.
I earned it. I fought for it. I became it.
My soul knows this isn’t an ending.
A promise kept. A legacy carried forward. A dream made tangible.
The artist became the doctor. And the doctor is still an artist.
Dr. Aisha McMahon, PT, DPT. 🎓🤎
And baby, we’re just getting started.

Honored to receive the Social Responsibility Award for supporting underserved communities. But the credit really goes to everyone who donated, supported the fundraiser, and helped make the food donation happen. A whole community made it possible.

One of many goals down. Onto the next 🥂
