Beautiful week back at St. George’s in Halifax’s North End in mid-August making a beast of a record with the Scamper and a major crew. Much love to this family of musicians in Atlantic Canada (+ a few imports) making dreams come true together. Looking forward to working on this record in the coming year and sharing it once it’s done. 💚 photos by @jamiekronick

THE ALBUM HAS ARRIVED!

It’s here and it’s beautiful. I am so excited to get it into your hands. Not only does it sound perfect, but the artwork and layout look incredible IRL. Sydney, Jamie, and Ben smashed it. I am also really chuffed at how my first attempt at making a custom font turned out.

If you ordered on bandcamp, it’s in the mail.

If you ordered in person or by emailing/texting/DM’ing me, I will be contacting you for your address this week coming (I am moving this weekend). You can also come to the Sameer Project fundraiser at Glitter Bean today to pick it up. I will be there from 4-9.

A silent movie with live music? Pretty sure this is what Old Confidence Lodge was built for.

Accompanied by some of Halifax’s most intriguing musicians and improvisers, this matinee screening of the classic film “Metropolis” is not to be missed.

In a techno-future where the world is starkly divided between the elite and the workers, John Fredersen, a wealthy magnate uses unseemly methods to crush a worker uprising led by the charismatic Maria... who also happens to be the object of desire for his son Feder. Abstract set design, incredible practical effects, and hundreds of extras make Metropolis a dizzying and alluring retro view of the future.

testament
a proclamation of fact that cannot be known
realities blossom in every instant
branching into the infinite

unfelt, you split unfathomably
into every you
the best, the worst and all possibilities
the mundane, and the horrific, and the sublime

your realities out numbered infinitely by
those in which you are null
compounding relentlessly

we are splitters and we are the split
the cause and the effect
as 8 billion, plus uncountable others
sprout their own branches

chaos but
if we could only see it
total order

Doug Cameron playing Jerry Granelli’s gongs on the introduction piece, Impact/Awake. Doug and I, along with the several other members of the band, were students of Jerry’s for many years. It feels good that in a way we could have Jerry present for the recording session.

Doug sounds real good on this record too. What a bud. A playful musician who is all in. Doug is incredibly technical, like Granelli, and uses that skill it to serve the piece in ways that are exciting, beautiful, tender, destructive. He has the ability to lift everyone else up in the ensemble. 10/10, would recommend.

Thanks everyone for a great release day. Thank you for streaming, buying the record, and checking out the music videos.

Special thanks to everyone in the band. Three of them have been, or currently are, my roommate. The majority of us studied with Granelli or are a part of the Creative Music Workshop. Ajax, Jackson, Tom, Ellen, Ross, Gabriella, and Doug.

Thanks to Zoe and Meghan for joining us and for being flexible and into trying stuff out. Your contributions lifted this project into something I couldn't have imagined. I'll talk more about that some other time...

Thank you Lance for crafting a beautiful piece of poetry and then coming in and blending flawlessly. What a legend.

Michael Duguay, thanks for the support in seeing this through and for taking so much off of my plate so I could focus on making stuff. I appreciate you! It wouldn't have happened with out you.

Sydney, Jamie, and Benjamin thank you for making the record look incredible. You all brought fantastic work and artistry.

Deep gratitude to Graeme Campbell, who went above and beyond was like the 12th member of the band when it came to recording and mixing. His approach is like mine in that we try to serve the music. So much more to say about him, what an experience.

We recorded at Fang studios and it was awesome. I'd recommend it highly.

Thank you everyone.

Andrew MacKelvie’s Many Worlds is out today on @watchthatendsthenightrecords . The single most rewarding and enriching creative relationship in my life is the one I share with Andrew - when I met Andrew, I started learning how to make the sort of music I’d always wanted to make. With this project, I got to contribute to his goal of making the sort of music he’d always wanted to make. I’ll never forgot walking around downtown St. John’s with Andrew while he described the concept for this project and I just knew how we could make it happen. I’ll never forget these sessions - absolutely brilliant team of musicians collaborating with such warmth and intention and so much feel. I’m ever grateful to be a Halifax creative music community cosplayer and thankful every day to know Andrew and this amazing community of friends that he introduced me to.

Listen to this record! Supported by @canada.council
