Crucial Times Fest raised over $2,000 for immigrant and refugee aid, gathering bands willing and ready to condemn ICE on camera. Artists from It’s A Setup to Iabsorbyourstatic and Portland’s Lab Rat filled the room with energy, snd spoke to the importance of community. A highlight of the bill was Downcast from Goleta, CA, who formed in the 80’s and reunited in 2015 after about a 10 year hiatus. “We felt it was time to get back out there and express ourselves a little bit more politically,” lead vocalist Kevin told us.

In this episode of The Hardcore Therapist, I talk with Kevin Doss, best known as the voice of the legendary hardcore band Downcast.
Kevin shares about hardcore, purpose, intensity, community, and what it means to carry that same heart into a life of service as a firefighter and paramedic in Los Angeles. We talk about the emotional power of music, the connection between hardcore and helping others in crisis, and how trauma, resilience, responsibility, and compassion can all live in the same story. @kevindoss14 @downcastoriginal #realstories #hardcorepunk #mentalhealth #thehardcoretherapist

VOICE OF THE VOICELESS - SMORGASBORD RECORDS 1991

Endpoint
Majority Of One
Encounter
Worlds Collide
Youth Of Today
Transcend
Split Lip
Stepdown
Juvenocracy
Outspoken
Discipline
Shelter
Downcast
Naked Angels
Rob R Rock
S.F.T.H.

Endpoint — Black Skies
Majority Of One — One Man
Encounter — Consequence
Worlds Collide — Effect Of The Age
Youth Of Today — No More
Transcend — Product Of Greed
Split Lip — Evolution
Stepdown — Giving

Following the Spokane 3 verdict, which saw anti-ICE protestors convicted of federal conspiracy, the city’s hardcore music scene turned out to Crucial Times festival. Organized by 221 Press, the event brought together bands from as far away as California, and helped raise over $2,000 for Spokane-based groups providing aid for immigrants and refugees.
