It’s 9/25. Or, as it’s being adopted by many, Dolly Day (9 to 5).

Taking this day to honor who she was and what she did would be disingenuous without taking some action. Here are 5 ways that you can honor her legacy.

1. Donate to local mutual aid organizations. There are drop off sites at Doylestown Borough Hall until 4pm. And then we’re moving over to Siren Records to take donations from 5-7pm. We’re looking for non perishable food items & household supplies (soap, paper towels, period products, personal hygiene items, etc). Donations will be brought to the New Britain Food Pantry and St Pauls Little Free Pantry.

2. Donate to one of Dolly’s MANY organizations. Can you afford $9.25 to help promote literacy? Yes? I think most of us can. Here’s the link: https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/

3. Uplift voices who are being targeted, attacked or marginalized. That’s something that Dolly always did. Sometimes she did it quietly by supporting people in her life financially & emotionally. If you’re not paying attention, the case of Nolan Wells is something that needs to be amplified. If you don’t know about it, educate yourself. Say his name. And celebrate the JOY that he brought into the world before he was taken from it.

4. Make sure that your library card is valid. You don’t have a library card? Go get one! Have fees? BCFL has been so kind & reasonable about that. Just go! Get a new card! Or use the card you have. Check something out. By golly, you can even set up an audiobook account.

5. Do one thing to make yourself feel gorgeous. Get your nails done. Wear something with a little more bling than you typically do. Eat some potatoes (Dolly’s weakness) or cinnamon bread (something that she was famous for cooking)
.
.
Dolly is someone who literally put her money where her mouth was. And now we get to carry the torch for her. 💕🦋

Bucks County Beacon and Doylestown Action League are hosting a panel on October 21st that explores how we can drive meaningful change through climate action, environmental justice, and mutual aid.

Moderated by Connor O’Hanlon, this panel brings together leaders working at the intersection of science, policy, business, and media to build a more equitable, sustainable future. One of the speakers in the lineup is SBN's own Executive Director, @zoraidacordero_ !

Thanks to the Doylestown Action League for asking me to join them today at the Good Trouble Rally. Inspired by all the great folks who organized and who showed up --even with the bad air and threat of tornados! Here's a few of my songs that I played for them all!
