POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Some late evening this year, I found myself mixing Thaiboy Digital (@bigthaiboy ) and @thefrostchildren for a venue in Berlin. It reminded me of my BA Thesis, which I wrote to graduate from UdK Berlin as part of the @newmediaclass_udk . Almost seven years before I started this journey, I had been working long nights where alcohol was the main source of income for venues. And to be honest, it can make you feel quite lonely as a sober spirit, even though you are surrounded by hundreds people.
Things have changed. According to recent @clubcommission research (see Studie Clubkultur Berlin) Berlin’s club revenue structure has shifted, with ticket sales now accounting for roughly the same share of revenue that drinks did in pre pandemic.

ᴛʀᴀɴꜱᴠᴇʀꜱᴀʟ ꜱᴏɴɪᴄ ᴍᴇᴛʜᴏᴅꜱ:
ʟɪꜱᴛᴇɴɪɴɢ ᴛʜʀᴏᴜɢʜ ʙᴇʀʟɪɴ’ꜱ ᴍɪɴɪᴍᴀʟ ᴛᴇᴄʜɴᴏ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ 2000ꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ʜʏᴘᴇʀᴘᴏᴘ, sitting unpublished on my drive for the last year somehow closes the circle between experiencing these two different situations of Berlin’s nightclubs.

While some people argue that dancefloors have become worse, or maybe just different, I suggest to transpose the practice of Transversal Listening as a sonic method to draw connections between the 2010s Minimal Techno and the genre of Hyperpop, which emerged throughout the pandemic and expanded the multiverse of electronic dance music.

You can download the thesis via my website (link in bio), and eventually access it digitally at the library of @udkberlin .

Special thanks to my supervisor, Dr. Anita Jóri (@dr.analoguebubblebath ), whose seminars brought a lot of light through the screens during the pandemic isolation many of us experienced, at a time when dancefloors were locked down.

Join us this sunday for a discussion on the legacy of Vilém Flusser with author Martha Schwedener @marthaschwendener @etienne_la_font_de_saint_yenne and Anita Jóri @dr.analoguebubblebath of the Flusser archives

Sunay July 5
at Laden 2 Brunnenstr. 65
13355 Berlin
@laden2berlin

In this book on the idiosyncratic and prescient Czech-Brazilian philosopher, Martha Schwendener explores the profound effect of art on Flusser’s thought. The Society of the Screen reveals how Flusser’s lifelong engagement with experimental practices—from abstract painting and concrete poetry in Brazil to video, cybernetics, and photography in Europe and the United States—as well as his extensive involvement with the São Paulo Biennial informed his belief that we were moving from “history”—a civilization informed by linear writing—into “post-history,” dominated by technical images.

Anita Jóri — The Theory of the Beat

We are looking forward to Dr. Anita Jóri’s lecture tomorrow 4 pm. Her research explores the intersections of dance music, language, and urban culture. A postdoctoral researcher at Leuphana University of Lüneburg and co-curator of CTM Festival’s Discourse program, Jóri examines how rhythm becomes a social language — how the dance floor evolves into a form of community, a city, even an identity.

In her talk, The Theory of the Beat, she delves into the relationship between Berlin’s club culture and gentrification, tracing how economic and cultural transformations reshape nightlife spaces. Drawing parallels with Budapest, Jóri reflects on how music communities respond to urban change and the pressures of the creative October 26 at 16:00, as part of the BINÁLÉ closing event.

I’ve just come back from a gathering that brought together voices, practices, and perspectives from over seven countries—Norway, Finland, Italy, Serbia, Uganda, New Zealand, and Germany among others. We met in @chemnitz2025 to explore how the performing arts can spark dialogue across boundaries and identities—and how they can contribute to building a more cohesive and inclusive society.

I had the honor of opening the @_dialoguingarts general assembly together with the wonderful @runahestad with a loop-based performance that wove together sampled voices, traditional Norwegian fiddle sounds, a folk melody, and a song based on Tennessee Williams’ haunting poem We Have Not Long to Love—a reminder of how fragile and precious connection is.

In times when the arts are increasingly underfunded and under pressure, being part of a project like @_dialoguingarts that insists on the social and political relevance of the arts feels more important than ever. I left Chemnitz full of questions, inspiration, and a sense of shared responsibility to keep these conversations—and this work—alive. Thanks to the whole amazing team and especially to @jens_knigge and @runahestad for being the most inspiring project leaders and for bringing us together.

And to everyone who joined us, in person or online, during our days in Chemnitz: your presence mattered.

Through listening, questioning, sharing, and creating, you continue to shape this project in powerful ways.

🎭 d@rts is about using the arts for dialogue, co-creation, and making space for voices too often unheard.

A special thank you to Technische Universität Chemnitz for hosting our consortium meeting and to Open Space Chemnitz for welcoming us during the public events in the frame of Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025.

🌈 We’re back together! The d@rts team just kicked off our meeting in Chemnitz — and Day 1 was packed with big ideas and bold conversations.

From research on education and cultural policy, to creating a digital playground, from artistic trainings, to build a decolonial framework — d@rts is all about using the performing arts to buld dialogue and increase social cohesion and inclusion.

🎭 Our project connects people across Europe, Uganda & Aotearoa/New Zealand — working with communities to rethink what inclusion means through music, dance, and theatre.

Today’s General Assembly reminded us: the work starts with us. Sharing, listening, creating — together.

💛 And #Chemnitz2025 , as European Capital of Culture, is the perfect place to do that.

Stay tuned for more from our workshops and public events at @chemnitzopenspace!

Dancecult DC25 Conference
📍Technische Universität Berlin

It was enlightening to participate at Dancecult 25 conference in the frame of @ctmfestival in Berlin last weekend. ✨ Discussions covered everything from the difficulties of archiving club culture to the debate around techno’s roots and its UNESCO recognition. We heard presentations about the role of studios in artistic expression, queer and underground scenes, how club sound design influences emotional experiences, the interplay between old and new technologies, and many more... Beyond the panels, I loved diving into books on the subject, seeing a part of @michael.riemel’s incredible flyer collection, engaging with online communities, and developing a special interest in vaporwave with @jansartblog through an interesting panel discussion. The closing performance by @s_p_a_c_e.xyz absolutely blew us away—truly something we had never seen before! It was inspiring to connect with such like-minded people and share our experiences.

Electronic music and dance cultures have profoundly shaped contemporary music, art, and social movements. Its ephemeral nature, just like folk traditions and rituals, adds to the challenge of documenting and archiving this culture. From music technology to event flyers, posters, zines, clubs, and festivals, many aspects of our culture remain under-documented. What and how should we archive? Can we even properly research party culture? How can our community retain authority over its own history?

Huge thanks to the organizers for an insightful and thought-provoking gathering, can’t wait for next year’s!⚡️
