We love this post from Jai Certified Parenting Coach and medical doctor, @ciripmd 🙌 💫

“Gentle parenting is less about immediate results and more about meeting and nurturing your child where they are.

Acknowledging their humanity

Believing in their inherent goodness

Staying curious and learning who they are

Becoming self aware

Becoming informed about child development

That’s what conscious parenting is about 🫶🏽”

Alright, let’s talk IUDs!

But first, are y’all removing these at home?! 👀 I don’t personally recommend this. While it’s a safe, quick, office procedure there are occasionally issues w/removal. Don’t let social media fool you. Light bleeding may occur for a few days after removal, it’s usually not heavy as she describes. Which makes me wonder if she had issues removing it which led to excessive bleeding.🤔

Several hormonal IUDs are available in the U.S. Levonorgestrel (LNG) is a type of progestin used in hormonal contraceptives. IUDs are very effective long acting reversible contraceptives or LARCs.

Per ACOG:
“All LNG-IUDs have a similar primary mechanism of action: they prevent fertilization by causing a profound change in the amount & viscosity of cervical mucus, making it impenetrable to sperm. The available evidence supports that LNG-IUDs do not disrupt pregnancy & are not abortifacients.” *Read* they don’t cause abor*tions.

“Although only a small amount of steroid is released from the LNG-IUD, some may experience hormone-related effects, such as headaches, nausea, breast tenderness, mood changes, and ovarian cyst formation.”

✔️Users of the LNG-IUD report weight gain that is comparable to those using the copper IUD.
✔️Acne is rarely reported w/use of the LNG-IUD.
✔️The LNG-IUD does not appear to have an adverse effect on bone mineral density or to increase the risk of fracture.
✔️Most women who use an LNG-IUD continue to ovulate but experience diminished menstrual bleeding because of the local effect of levonorgestrel on the endometrium. The LNG-IUD 20 is FDA-approved for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding.

Overall, complications w/IUDs are uncommon & include:
expulsion=the IUD spontaneously comes out. The expulsion rate is between 2% & 10% during the 1st year.
method failure=a pregnancy occurs w/the IUD in place
perforation=the device goes through the uterine wall. This is rare, occurring in about 1:1000 insertions.

This is not a comprehensive review of IUDs nor is it medical advice but it is evidenced based information to keep you informed! Thoughts?!
