Dr. Lewis and Taryn had a great time presenting at the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) conference on a symposium titled “Racial Trauma, Reproductive Justice, and Black Maternal Resilience,” chaired by Dr. Nathalie Dieujuste, along with Dr. Sierra Carter. They enjoyed sharing our new research and leaving with a sense of radical hope as we continue to push forward this important work.

Last photo dump before we turn it up a notch…
✨No greater feeling than alignment: Honored to stand alongside the newly enstooled president of ABPsi, Dr. Monique Swift, learn from, and share space with so many brilliant souls who continue to lead, uplift, and embody what it means to do the work. Her speech perfectly embodied the collective work set before us.

From powerful presentations to well-deserved recognitions, every moment was a reminder:
We are not alone in this mission.
We are seen. We are supported. We are rising—together.✨

Just returned from the Association of Black Psychologists @nationalabpsi Convention at Bethune-Cookman University, and this year, I didn’t present and instead I chose to listen and to learn.

There was something powerful about being on a campus founded by Mary McLeod Bethune, a woman who believed deeply in the transformational power of education for Black people. Her legacy was everywhere: in the brilliance of the scholars, the warmth of the community, and the unapologetic commitment to healing and liberation through knowledge.

As I step into my new role as a Black psychology professor, I’m carrying that spirit with me, one that says education is a tool for freedom.

To the students and early career professionals: You are part of a legacy. Your path doesn’t have to be rushed or loud to be meaningful. Make room to grow, to rest, and to learn on purpose.

I am proud to accept an offer of admission from the #1 Counseling Psychology PhD program in the nation, the University of Maryland! I will be working to identify how doulas contribute to improved Black maternal mental health and explore the role of gendered racism as it impacts the perinatal period for both mothers and doulas. This moment is a validation of all the tears, so-called failures and difficulties that were a necessary part of my journey. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to earn a Master’s or solo teach an upper division college course. If there is anything you can take from my experiences, it is to trust your intuition and allow yourself to recognize when you are in alignment with your purpose. I am so grateful to do work that lights up my brain and my heart. I look forward to serving my community as an advocate and therapist. DR. TNT IS OFFICIALLY LOADINGGG 😭😭

I will be sharing tips from my journey and chronicling my PhD experience on @dr.tnt2b stay tuned! #tnt #dontforgetthelastthree ✨
