On October 7, Student Senate hosted our Academic Affairs Dinner, bringing together students, deans, and professors for a discussion about the current state of academics at Drake University. 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to these important conversations about academics on campus. A special thank you to Monica Osborn for planning the event, and to all of our wonderful deans and professors for taking the time to attend!

Still grateful for the opportunities Drake Athletics provides to student media members. It’s a great day to be a Sports Media student and a Bulldog! 🐶

I’m thankful to learn from and work alongside some incredible people in our department, especially Michael Admire and Dave Shindelar, who continue to provide opportunities to grow, learn and develop professionally.

Building connections with Division I student-athletes, fellow student journalists and media professionals has made this experience even more rewarding. Every opportunity is another chance to grow as a storyteller and take another step toward my future in sports media.

Proud to be a Bulldog. 💙 #DSMHomeTownTeam

Did you know there are 2,250 college mascots? Well, Christopher Pio has written about each one of them. He recently showed off his knowledge in my Mascots, Media, Mega-Fans: Culture of Sports Fandom class. Chris is also on the cusp of releasing his SIXTH book on mascots.

Give him a follow (some 🔥 content coming soon) @nicknames_and_mascots

Observing Bills Mafia in the wild 😂

We took a field trip to a Bills watch party in West Des Moines and it delivered. My Sports Fandom students were locked in, slightly confused but overall entertained by this passionate fan base.

Where should we go on our next field trip?

Mark Woodley’s favorite team is 4,000 miles away but over the last five years he’s grown a connection to the team and community of @wrexham_afc.

This semester in FYS 018 we’re exploring The Culture of Sports Fandom.

Woodley shared his journey to fandom and how it’s grown season after season. In 2025, Woodley was in Wrexham to witness European futbol history, which he calls his favorite sports moment of all time.
