This project reimagines the historic Wapping Hydraulic Pumping Station and Shadwell Basin as part of a new civic and cultural landscape centred on water, performance, and atmosphere. Water acts not as a backdrop, but as an active architectural and phenomenological agent. The architecture reacts and is an indicator of climactic shifts, and creates experiences drawing from the natural occurences of the site.

Framing these ephemeral occurrences, natural processes are transformed into scenographic events. At an urban scale, the project acts as a spinal infrastructure for future community-led trusts, as the Theatre and the Boiler House seek to be run and owned by those who steward it. The project positions the basin as both stage and participant, allowing everyday occupation, environmental phenomena, and theatrical performance to overlap.

Through adaptive reuse and new intervention, the architecture investigates how atmosphere, materiality, and environmental conditions can generate emotionally resonant experiences. The project proposes a house of dancing water: an architecture that is mutable, immersive, and deeply rooted in the transient character of its site.

When historical urban fabric collides with modern density, how do we articulate the spatial threshold?
***
Our intervention inserts a linear sequence of modules into the historical block, acting as a morphological bridge between existing context and new density.
A street-facing courtyard interacts with the neighboring church as an active social pocket, while a secluded rear patio preserves domestic intimacy. At the upper level, a shared terrace unifies the volumes into a continuous, meandering form, establishing nuanced transition zones between individual dwellings.
The proposal negotiates privacy and collective life, synthesizing the existing fabric through a contemporary spatial logic.

Designed a therapy space within a barn on a historical site, offering a unique opportunity to renew the atmosphere and provide a peacetul retreat trom city lite. The barn was enhanced with modern amenities and vibrant colours to revitalise its character and create a supportive environment that fosters visitors’ healing journey. Within this, I designed dedicated activity therapy spaces for sewing and pottery-making, promoting creativity, mindfulness, and hands-on engagement as part of a restorative experience.

Isometric cut drawing of Vinayagar Sannadhi | Sengunam, Perambalur

Drawing : @ragulravichandran

A small Vinayagar shrine at the Arulmigu Thiruparameshwarar Temple, built with stone masonry at the lower level and brick with lime mortar above.

Loss of plaster, weathered brickwork, vegetation growth, open joints and fallen architectural elements indicate its fragile condition. The exposed layers also reveal the traditional materials and construction techniques hidden within the structure.

Though small in scale, such shrines are valuable records of traditional craftsmanship and deserve careful documentation and conservation.

Isometric cut drawing of Amman shrine of Arulmigu Bhavaneshwarar Temple, Ponpethi, near Pudukkottai.

Drawing: @ragulravichandran

Built with stone, this small shrine shows the beauty of traditional Tamil temple architecture. The stone pillars, walls, and detailed corbelling work of vimana tell us about the skill of the craftsmen who built it.
Due to the root penetration and the vegetation growing in the temple, the external stones started moving and dislocating its position.

Today, the shrine is surrounded by plants and shows signs of neglect. But its beauty and history are still visible.

Every old stone has a story. Our responsibility is to document, understand, and protect these places for future generations.
