Our @lumenhighschool PEBCI team on Polaroid🎞️ Meet the amazing educators who are a part of PEBCI! Each school was selected for the unique and innovative ways that we all can learn from what animates their school’s mission and the spirit of their work.  Lumen HS is first up in our series highlighting the school teams that make up PEBCI! Based in Spokane, WA, Lumen offers educational pathways for teen parents leading to high school graduation, positive parenting, and future life success.    We’re grateful to have the Lumen team as part of our beloved community and excited for all the ways we continue to grow and (re)imagine public education together💫 Stay tuned as we introduce more of the school teams who are creating the beloved community of PEBCI! #PEBCI #BelovedCommunity #PublicEducation #SeattleUniversity #LumenHighSchool

📚What does it mean to build schools in beloved community? During the 2026 PEBCI Convening, educators and leaders reflected on how belonging, identity, and access shape the relationships between schools and the communities they serve. We were grateful to welcome Dr. @yolie_sealeyruiz, whose keynote on self-excavation, racial literacy, and critical love invited us to consider the inner work that makes meaningful change possible! These conversations are part of PEBCI’s ongoing work to (re)imagine public education through beloved community. 🎥 Video: FreshMade #PEBCI #BelovedCommunity #PublicEducation #SeattleUniversity

📍In September 2025, PEBCI educators traveled to Atlanta for a study away rooted in the legacy, work, and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Our time in Atlanta brought us to places central to Dr. King’s life and work, from his childhood home and Ebenezer Baptist Church to @thekingcenter, creating space for learning, reflection, and connection! As we continue working toward beloved community in public education, we carry these moments with us and return to them as we move the work forward. 📸Photo & Video: FreshMade #PEBCI #BelovedCommunity #PublicEducation #SeattleUniversity #SeattleUEduc

Looking back at the 2025 PEBCI Convening💫 Our first convening brought together educators and leaders from across Washington State to @cedarbrooklodge to share what was taking shape in their schools, exchange ideas, and cultivate what public education can look like. We were honored to welcome Drs. @berniceaking and @kelishagraves from @thekingcenter. Dr. @berniceaking, reflected on her father’s teachings, the role of education in her family’s story, and the ongoing work of creating beloved community. Grounded in the legacy and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the gathering centered the relationships, ideas, and possibilities at the heart of PEBCI’s work. #PEBCI #BelovedCommunity #PublicEducation #SeattleUEduc

From the vision that sparked this work to the educators and communities carrying it forward, this recognition belongs to a growing collective committed to (re)imagining what is possible for public education. In the second slide, hear from members of the PEBCI team as they reflect on the heart behind this work and what it means to put that vision into practice. Thank you to @su_diversityandinclusion for recognizing this work and to everyone who continues to be part of this journey! #PEBCI #BelovedCommunity #SeattleUniversity #LeadingwithLove

Sunday (Re)memberings. 🌱 “WE know ourselves through the act of (re)membering.” ~ bell hooks How are WE (re)membering? What does our work look like? Feel like? Sound like? How are WE living, experiencing life? How are WE awakening from deep sleep? The antidote to terror is our memory, (re)membering, “offering US a world where there is no death, where WE sustain loss by rituals of remembrance.” May Spirit and the Ancestors continue to guide and bear witness. May WE continue to be in deep study about what our sacred work is, where WE do what is necessary to make our human experience better for ourselves and one another. May WE all move our minds. May WE continue to be curious, to lean into the difficult, and into spaces of openness, memory-making, and making the sacred (re)turn. Who and whose are WE? What must WE (re)member? . . . #SisterhoodSavesLives #Remembering #CriticallyRaceConsciousAndResponsiveLeadership #EndarkenedConsciousness #LiveBrunchSundays
