It was 30 years ago when Mamady started Tam Tam Mandingue in Belgium.

For the past 30 years, Mamady didn’t just teach djembe.
He taught us the importance of respect, the importance of tolerance, and the importance to be joyful.
He may be teaching an instrument from Africa, but it is humanism that he is really teaching.

And humanism, everybody understands that.
In every International workshop, he will always said this,
“The djembe doesn’t know if you are male of female,
the djembe doesn’t know how old are you,
the djembe doesn’t see your nationalities.
If only all the world leaders player djembe, we wouldn’t have the problems we have today."

During Mamady’s lifetime, he created a lot of new rhythms.
Even in the last few years of his life when he cannot move around much, he was still creating rhythms.
Thanks to technologies, we are able to archive all his creations.
There are still 157 rhythms that haven’t been taught yet.

In the first 30 years of TTM, he has shown us his culture.
And he had taught us how to be a true human.
In the next 30 years of TTMDA, it is our turn now to popularise his 157 rhythms, and also to promote humanism to more people.

If at the end of the next 30 years we can have another group of multi-nationalities standing on stage here saying the same thing, then we feel we will have done our teacher proud.

We like to thank Mamady’s family for inviting us to this event. We hope our presence gave honour to the family.

So for today we celebrate Mamady’s life, and I’m sure he wants each and everyone of us to be joyful.
