I’ll never take for granted getting to be this close to my friends!!!

For years, I’ve watched you give so much to the community so effortlessly.
But this past year, I’ve been especially thrilled to witness you begin a new journey of giving back to yourself, too!
I’m so proud of you!
You are a beautiful light in this world, and I’m grateful to be your friend! Thank you so much for every time I have been in my head and in the dark and you never cease to turn the lights on, I hope you always know you are loved and feel love from me!

We’ve started so many journeys together, lol, from quitting relaxers to starting locs, from quitting jobs to starting businesses, from car conversations to podcasts that we’ve never shared lol.
But the most important journey has been deciding to go from bitter ******* to badder ones, and we’ve sung karaoke all along the way! 😂🎤
Here’s to so many more years of friendship, growth, and singing our hearts out. I pray this next chapter brings you abundance, joy, and the same love you so freely give to others.

Happy 33rd Solar Return! 💕💕💕💕💕

Women shouldn’t have to choose between being soft and being safe.

Our third annual Aim for Change is about more than beautiful women posing with firearms. It’s about domestic violence awareness, responsible gun ownership, firearm safety education, and reminding women that they have a right to protect themselves.

We can celebrate femininity while advocating for self-preservation. The two have never been mutually exclusive.

The goal isn’t to make women feared. It’s to make women’s safety a priority. 💜 founded by @drekkia & @desstoni_

MEET THE FOUNDERS OF AIM FOR CHANGE 💜

Drekkia Writes (@drekkia) and Desstoni Holman (@desstoni_ ) are two women who came together around one shared belief: women deserve to know how to protect themselves, and firearm ownership should always come with education, responsibility, and safety.

Drekkia is a public speaker, community advocate, and founder of The Melanin Land, a platform centered on celebrating and empowering Black women. Desstoni is a trained firearms instructor passionate about safe and responsible firearm education.

Together, we created Aim for Change—an initiative centered on domestic violence awareness, firearm safety, responsible ownership, self-protection, building community, and empowering women to make informed decisions about their safety.

And yes, we knew the imagery would make people uncomfortable.

The gowns were intentional. The femininity was intentional. The firearms were intentional.

We knew it would shake the table.

But we also have to ask: Why does seeing women preparing to protect themselves make some people so uncomfortable?

Roughly 1 in 4 women in the U.S. has experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner in her lifetime. Yet sometimes the image of a woman protecting herself creates more outrage than the violence that made her consider protection in the first place.

When imagery of women standing confidently in their power can potentially jeopardize reputations, opportunities, careers, and livelihoods, we have to ask ourselves what that says about what makes society uncomfortable.

Where is that same discomfort for the people who violate women?

Aim for Change does not glorify violence. We advocate for safety.

We chose powerful imagery because sometimes an image starts a conversation that words alone cannot.

So instead of only asking, “Why would these women do this?” ask:

“Why do so many women feel like they need to know how to protect themselves in the first place?”

If the images made you stop, think, question, or talk, they’ve already done part of what they were created to do.

Now let’s keep the conversation going. 💜

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we’re wearing purple with purpose. 💜

Safety isn’t a luxury. It’s a right. Every woman deserves to feel secure in her home, in her relationships, and in her own skin.

This shoot was about more than pictures. It was about strength, sisterhood, and taking back power. Because when strong women support women, we rise together. 💪🏾

Domestic violence ends when we choose safety, respect, and love, and when we stand up for ourselves and each other. 🎯
