AJ Walton speaks about his work and the unique atmosphere at Get Better Academy. We also discuss his career, player development, the coach–player relationship, and the skills and mindset it takes to succeed at the highest level.

We had a fascinating conversation on Beyond the Court, and the episode is now available on our YouTube channel.

And congratulations to the New York Knicks, Jalen Brunson, and all NYC fans who waited 53 years for this moment. A championship built on passion, resilience, and belief. 🏀🏆

When I met AJ Walton for a coffee in the Czech Republic, I immediately knew he would be a great guest for my podcast—well beyond his achievements on the basketball court.

AJ had an outstanding college career before taking his game to Europe, where he built an impressive professional career. Along the way, he earned MVP honors in both the Czech and Polish leagues and gained valuable experience as both a player and coach.

Today, he continues to share his knowledge and passion for the game with the students at GBA Academy.

Next Sunday, we'll sit down for a great basketball conversation, covering his journey, lessons learned, and life beyond the court

Stay tuned! 🏀🎙️

Anyone who knows me well knows that I love basketball at least as much as I love music. And not just the game itself, but everything around it — the discipline, the mentality, the relationships, and the life lessons that come with it. That’s also why I started my humble podcast, Beyond the Court.

For me, it’s already too late to become a professional basketball player, but ever since my son came to me at 7 years old and said, “Dad, I don’t want piano lessons anymore, I want basketball,” this journey became ours together.

And honestly, it hasn’t been always easy.

We moved between countries, teams, and different basketball environments. At the beginning of this year, Jan joined GBA - get better academy, and for the first time we truly experienced what an international basketball academy with a professional environment can look like — both on and off the court.

Of course, there are the visible things: high-level individual training, access to gyms, physiotherapy, player feedback, and connections to American college basketball. But what impressed me the most was something much simpler: the people.

I found coaches and staff who are open to communication and constantly trying to improve both the players and the organization itself. In basketball, that mindset is actually quite rare.

GBA is not a massive factory. It feels more like a boutique academy that genuinely tries to give personal attention to every player and help each one develop in the right environment.

So why am I writing this?

Simply because I love basketball, I know how difficult this journey can be for both players and parents, and I also know how rare it is to find serious people who truly care about development. When you find something valuable, it’s worth sharing.

And if you or your son have serious basketball ambitions, I honestly think GBA is worth looking into. 🏀🏋️‍♂️
