๐Ÿ ๐ŸŒˆ The English Room founder Holly Phillips is known for her colorful, bold interior design and her mega-popular blog by the same name. Six years ago, Phillips and her husband, Marshall, returned to the 1963 Eastover home where she grew up. โ€œI bought it from my parents,โ€ says the mother of three. โ€œMy closet is my motherโ€™s closet. Iโ€™m a shopping addict. I love horses, dogs and clothes.โ€ Phillips takes us on a tour of her closet and shows us what changes sheโ€™s made โ€” and what remains the same.

๐Ÿค ๐Ÿ‘ขPersonal style: Colorful, eclectic, Western. Caftans and cowboy boots.

๐Ÿฉฐ๐Ÿ‘–Earliest fashion memories: I had a pretty epic neon phase in middle school. Fiorucci, an Italian (kind of) punk brand, had a bunch of neon sweatshirts. I remember making my mother buy me these neon pink Betsey Johnson ballet flats with a Velcro ankle strap. My classmates were like, WTF is she wearing? I loved it. T. Edwards was a store at SouthPark that had all the Guess jeans. I wanted a pair of Guess overalls so badly, I put them on layaway and paid maybe $20/week until I got them. They were $80, which was a lot at the time. Guess overalls, jellies and Candieโ€™s shoes โ€” my mother thought they were so tacky. They were so good.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ›๏ธ How did you start your blog? It was built out of my shopping habit. It started as all design-focused, then I slowly started adding more fashion. So itโ€™s a mix of travel, fashion, design โ€” and now I have several weekly columns: Art Love Monday, Textile Tuesday (or Travel), Wallpaper Wednesday, Things I Love Thursday, Retail Friday, Eye Candy Saturday, Link Lovinโ€™ Sunday.

๐Ÿ›ป๐Ÿ‘€ Pick up the March issue of @southparkmagazine to check out the entire feature!

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ๐Ÿ›‘ Be prepared to stop, cause I'm taking out the trash! No road sign or trashcan or bright colorful unassuming object is improptu Instagram photo shoot safe in my path.

โ˜ฎ๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธBut really, these @walkforpeace.usa venerable monks are the most impressionable thing on me right now, and for that I'm really grateful. Is anyone else following their journey every step of the way? Their recent messaging about how we are not intended to hold everything has a hold on my thoughts...

๐Ÿ’ญ "Forgiving ourselves for being imperfect frees us from the silent prison of shame. Forgiving others for their own struggles, frees us from the poison of resentment. When we let go of the story that we must continue to suffer, space opens up inside of us. You deserve to forgive yourself for being human, and to forgive others for being human, too. As you release what you do not need to carry, you will find a quiet, steady peace waiting there to shine."

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿซฑ๐Ÿฟโ€๐Ÿซฒ๐Ÿป Do we not all hold onto expectations of self and others that then take strong hold on us? Do we all not hold onto so much we do not need to carry? I am so grateful to see venerable monks for making waves of magnitude for all and to this leader for having such incredible vision to do something I feel is truly making an impact.

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿช“ Still haven't gotten your Christmas tree? Here's an idea! Keep it simple and nostalgic. Find the nearest woods near you and voila! Charlie Brown your own Christmas tree!

๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿ’ฐ Not only does it save you money and stress since you can't physically decorate the tree with all your ornaments, you'll actually feel really proud you saved yourself the expense in so many areas and did something COOL. Here's to keeping it simple! Don't forget to make it a #ralphlaurenchristmas

โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™ I just wanted to not let another moment slip by without giving a big huge loving shoutout to my very smart, talented, loyal, hardworking, sensitive, caring, kind, wildly hysterical, totally awesome and on and on do it all, Life COO, partner-in-crime, @dressthegallagher, Sydney Gallagher!

๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช Just last night, I was with a group of industry mate pals to celebrate friendship during the holidays. The topic of finding a good assistant came up amongst the group along with the resounding sentiment of how hard it is to find one. Above all else, I have always needed someone who is a self starter. Sydney is everything I mentioned and more. She is interested, proactive, talented and is not afraid to get her hands dirty. She knows how to read my mind, she reads my mind, she offers to do anything and everything to support me. She is not lazy or entitled. I have always had a hard time asking my assistants to do grunt work because I think it is degrading and I don't think I am teaching much in allowing that, but because Sydney is SO good, she allows ME to grow.

๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธShe runs errands, goes back to the house if someone forgets something, makes me laugh, wipes my tears, makes my children laugh, and she knows how to talk to colleagues and constituents like me. I feel comfortable with her making important phone calls on my behalf. How could I not mention that she even set and reset the mousetraps in my house. Most of all, she is a decent and good person who understands my personal and professional convictions and values, and she cares about what matters most. In my almost 15 years of operating this business, she is one of the greatest blessings to come my way which makes her one of the many, many things I have to be thankful for this holiday season.

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅ‚ If you've made it this far, will you please join me in saying Hip Hip Hooray, Sydney!!! And NO, you may not have her! Where would I have been the last year and a half plus without Sydney? Maybe in a gutter. Maybe not, but I'm all the better because of Sydney! Isn't she lovely? ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’•
