What’s next for human performance? The University of Michigan and ASICS officially opened the ASICS Michigan Sport Innovation Center (AMSI) on October 22 to explore that very question. A new multi-year collaboration backed by a $25 million commitment from ASICS, AMSI brings together experts in medicine, engineering, human performance, robotics, textiles, and the social sciences to turn human-centered research into data-driven innovations that help athletes at every level perform their best. The center’s research will contribute to the development of new products, including outsoles, midsoles, and uppers for performance running footwear. It is ASICS first U.S. research hub and follows a tradition started by the brand’s now 41-year-old Institute of Sport Science located in Kobe, Japan. #RunSpecialty #RunningBusiness #SportScience #HumanPerformance #ASICS

I’m frequently asked (understandably) if it hurts to watch other people head out on a run.  When Boulderthon asked me to be their official race starter I knew it would be my first “race day” since learning that I’ll never lace up for a hard run again. In most ways, yesterday was a lot like hundreds of race days before. I woke up before dawn, put on my running clothes, made a light breakfast thinking about how not to upset my stomach, and headed to the elite athlete warmup area. What was different this time, of course, was going through this familiar ritual knowing that I won’t be covering the course as one of the runners today. Or ever.  What I carried with me through the dark pre-dawn street of my hometown of Boulder yesterday morning was heartbreak for one along with joy and anticipation for thousands of you. Like I said, I’ve had hundreds of these race days. I’ve had the mix of thrill and terror, excitement and anxiety many many times in my life. I’ve done the build up and asked my body to show me what all of that work added up to. I’ve done the fun runs that were just a kick with a friend. I know how amazing it is to head out on a hard run, test what I’m capable of, meet a friend for a long run that’s more of a long chat, to experience my body get stronger and fitter. And I deeply and sincerely want that experience for all of you! What’s so terribly hard here is that when you give something your all, it can both bring you enormous joy and it can break your heart. My heart is in this sport in all ways: full, broken, and more fully than ever.  Does it hurt to watch you all take off for a run? Honestly, no, not really. I am still thrilled by race day. And I have a lot of race days ahead of me because all of you continue to show up! I carried my heartache to the start and weighed against the energy and happiness of the day, my burden was light. Thank you, Boulderthon, for making me part of your race day. I know how great it feels to be out there. I want that for you. Your joy was my joy.

We never take medals ➡️ or EXTRAordinary event weekends for granted. Both take A LOT to get right🤯❣️ On the eve of Berlin, Boulderthon, Warsaw & others, I’m still smiling big thinking about the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen last weekend. 🇩🇰 Hard-earned, exciting USA medals, amazing performances from athletes around the world, and great industry moments. Huge CONGRATS dear athletes and WOW, what a job by Sparta & World Athletics! 🙌 And a big shoutout to our Let’s Do This team working alongside the Sparta team launching the ’27 Copenhagen Half ballot. Last chances to apply. I highly recommend it! 🎉❣️ Here’s hoping those great Copenhagen vibes carry forward to everyone running, organizing, volunteering, cheering & supporting tomorrow! 📣🙌❣️
