Here is the same smile makeover as the last post but in a bit more detail 🦷

👉🏼 Before: this patient’s canines were sitting where the lateral incisors should be, and the lower front teeth were crowded

👉🏼 The plan: straighten first, then reshape the canines so they look like laterals and sit naturally next to the front teeth

👉🏼 After: a balanced smile where the reshaped canines blend in, and natural improvement in shade and a neat lower arch

Canine disguise is all about the small details: width, edge shape and contour, so that nobody would ever guess those teeth started out as canines 🦷✨

Minimal prep isn’t about removing less.
It’s about removing exactly enough.

Every step of the preparation, in order.

The depth on each tooth wasn’t decided by the bur.
It was decided by the design, planned on @smilecloud_biometrics .

Turning an already lovely smile into a truly beautiful one 🦷✨

This patient first had a wedding coming up and some time constraints which meant we first did whitening and some composite bonding on the centrals to treat the wear and old stained composite - the patient understood that we couldn’t do any bonding on the lateral incisors (the teeth either side of the front ones were too rotated to just bond over) 💭

This meant that post-wedding 💒 she came back again and we did some Invisalign followed by finally a bit of edge bonding on the laterals 🫶🏻

A bit of patience was needed but we got there in the end 👏🏼

Hello friends,

Dentistry is not easy. Dentistry is dynamic, always changing. As a clinician, we too need to change with the times. Newer technology. Newer materials. Newer philosophies. Newer protocols.

20 years ago if I saw this patient, it would have been a referral to the surgeon for an extraction. And some clinicians may still refer today, which is ok.

Through continued education, I have newer tools in my toolbox to save this tooth. This now gives me more options to offer the patient. After thorough discussion with the patient, she opted to save the tooth.

Make life easier for yourself and continue to grow, to learn and to develop through continued education. We need to be dynamic and learn to change as dentistry changes.

With that being said, have a great weekend and be kind to one another.
