Garlic is a simple and effective way to implement succession planting, especially for new gardeners.

Planted in late fall (I like to plant mine around Halloween here in zone 4), it takes about 9 months until harvest. In mid- to late July, the garlic is harvested and you can plant a fall succession of cabbage, bok choy, broccoli, or maybe some fall peas, lettuce, cilantro, beans, or one last hurrah of carrots. Lots of options for planting with about 10 weeks before first fall frost.

I cannot wait until all of these seedlings get planted out. Typically my last frost should have already passed, but we have frost advisories in the forecast for the next week or so. Just about a week and my garden beds will be full again. I love sharing what’s growing and of course all of these wonderful places you can get high quality seed from.
