Race recap 🫡

This might not interest you or you might think it’s long, but I wanted to share my experience with the ones who might be interested. Each picture or video tells a story..

1️⃣ Why an Ironman?

Since I was young, I’ve had an interest for endurance sports. Mostly because of my good friend @frankviolette_3 who would talk to me about Ironman’s, Tour de France, Olympics, etc.

Even I had an interest in them, I’ve never really practiced them seriously until a couple years ago. During my 100lbs weight loss journey, I have found a love for endurance sports!

They’re always room for improvement in these sports and I want to keep proving to my children and everybody else that anything is possible if you bring a positive attitude and put in the work.

The final result of this experience was obtained by having a good work ethic and having a desire to push myself to see how much my body and mind can endure.

I signed up for this race a year ago. Most of you probably don’t know that I DNF’d my first triathlon after signing up for this..

I was competing at the Cambridge-Narrows olympic distance triathlon (1500m, 40km, 10km) and I had to get out of the water on a jetski as my body was in shutdown mode in the water.

I took this loss very hard and the look on my kids faces when I had to pull out of the race really affected me. In my head, there was no way I would be able to complete a full Ironman if I couldn’t even finish an olympic distance event.

But failure is one of the best ways to learn and improve yourself. I could have hired a coach to help me out, but like I did with my weight loss and running journey, I stuck to my guns and decided to believe in me and do it all by myself!

I always put modest goals for myself and a stretch goal. Modest: 12h
Stretch: Under 11h
I had done a half Ironman by myself and finished with a time of 5:05.

I never expected finishing with an official time of 9:47.19!

2️⃣ The day before

Sometimes, things don’t always go as planned. In those situations, it’s important to be patient and resilient.

The day before a race like this, you wish to have a little shakeout to get the legs and body moving and then get off your feet as so

Joey Tardif, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!

The job is done 🫡

Beyond expectations 😳

Thanks to everyone for the kind messages. And thanks to my sponsor and my family who always supports me!

I will be making a post recapping the race on another post!

There’s nothing I love more than getting a good crew of friends together to do something hard.

Our first Grindstone Backyard Ultra was a huge success with many “firsts” - first half marathon, first marathon, first ultra marathon. What an awesome day seeing everyone absolutely CRUSHING. Top male runner @jeandeniscaissie got 70km in 8 hours and top female @namaste_dans_la_nature 50+. Insane! Every single person pushed outside their comfort zone.

Thanks to our partners who helped support the event:

See you next year. 👊
