I've always struggled to meditate and been embarrassed by that struggle. Here I am, claiming for decades to be "spiritual", but could never get the hang of meditating.
Until now. I learned SO much from this program and from @ashbrown.meditation; I have so much gratitude to finally (!) include meditation as a part of my daily practice ❤️
Gracias to @wildsuccessofficial as well! 🙏🏽

The very definition of “I cannot fuck this up”.

It’s 1046pm on Friday night and im at work, by choice, because I cannot fuck this up.

I haven’t spoken about this publicly but I guess now is as good a time as any to say that as of August 1, my friend, sister from another mister, and best boss I’ve ever had, was laid off.

But I was not.

And that is the most bittersweet pill I’ve ever swallowed.

I sobbed on Saturday when she texted me to tell me she was done cleaning out her office. I sobbed on Sunday when I went to the office to move some of my stuff into the office (start of school year is no joke and I couldn’t risk losing time during the week with moving furniture and art). I sobbed on Monday when I sat in her chair, sat behind her desk, turned on her monitors.

This feels unfair, but it is also a blessing, and I struggle to hold the two on the same plane most days. But… @drjamonthegram left some major shoes to fill. She has created something beautiful and amazing and so full of love and joy and hope and self determination for these students…and all I know is I cannot fuck this up.

What a beautiful experience to document African American Student Affairs (AASA) at the University of Arizona! @aasa_uofa

@akasiaart and I had such a wonderful time seeing all the special spaces that staff and students have created in the MLK building.

Some of the moments that stood out to me while hanging at AASA:

The students in the space seemed very much at home- comfortable, relaxed, and in community with each other. Each room had details that made the space welcoming- from art, to books, to comfy seats, the center has found a way to make their space inclusive for everyone.

Adiba, the coordinator for AASA, showed me around the center and to The Underground. The Underground recently underwent a make over to be a space for students to gather. In this space students host yoga, film screenings, other events and be cozy/hang out and study.

While taking photos in the Underground, I asked one of the student workers what her favorite part about the space is. She said “it’s not so much the color of paint or the pictures, it’s that we all put so much work into making it happen together.” Community members, staff, and students all had a hand in creating The Underground, which feels incredibly special to witness. I know Adiba and Dr. DelMar, AASA’s Director, have gone above and beyond to make this, and other spaces in the center, happen.

From the murals, to the music, to the tranquility room and Adiba’s snack corner, AASA is a safe space for students to thrive, connect, and learn.

WE LOVE YOU @drjamonthegram AND @aasa_uofa!

Having an award named after me is a deep, unexpected honor and one that leaves me truly humbled. Over these past 4 years, I’ve poured everything I had into UArizona’s Black community—through AASA, B.L.A.C.K., COBO, PIC, The PrettySmart Club, Delta, and in every moment where we chose unity, growth, and love. What started as friendships turned into family. My roots are here. And even as I move forward, I know the legacy we built will carry on.

The fight for space, for Black joy, for belonging is far from over. But we’ve proven that we are powerful, we are worthy, and we are here to stay.

I love AASA. I love my people. Thank you for making me. I wouldn’t be who I am without you.

Where do I even begin? This past week I got to experience Hawaii through the lens of the Hawaiian people. I didn’t go there as a tourist… I went there as a student. This wasn’t a vacation, it was a cultural experience… and man did I experience. This trip has meant more to me than any other I have ever been on and I can say for sure that it has changed my life and my perspective on sooo many things. Hawaii is more than its clear waters… it isn’t some tourist spot to vacation at… well it shouldn’t be. Hawaii is someone’s home and it should be respected as such. It is more than a beautiful place to vacation, it is more than Mai Tai’s and Pina Coladas, more than hula dancing, it is someone’s culture. Hawaii and the Hawaiian people should be respected and valued and I truly hope that one day they can be 100%. This is my Ohana 🌺
