Over the weekend we @oneroomlive were part of the biggest Emerge East festival yet at @barking_riverside. The festival is curated by the dope team @curatedbyhemingway and year on year it keeps growing and evolving. This is just a snippet of the energy.

For the second year, we hosted and co-curated the Riverside Block Party stage and honestly, seeing the generations come together, the team grow, and local groups collaborate and remind us how wavey things can be in your local area has been amazing.

Meeting more and more amazing residents and local talent is genuinely the best feeling, and I’m gassed for the future. Step by step!

Let’s get it. See you guys soon 🙏🏾
Big up all the DJs, the team and yourselves.
And if you want to catch us in more intimate settings, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday we take over the VC in the station, full of arts and culture. Come through, play some chess, meet wavey people 🔊

Interviewed @lancey for @nmemagazine - talking about his new album, his label and the UK underground at large 🌐

He’s mad cool.

What he said when I asked him how he stays so tapped into the underground and wider musical circles.

Also, I had the honour of interviewing @theinternet’s lead vocalist @syd right before she dropped her new album Beard. We spoke for hours face to face about all things music. A favourite of mine.

Syd got real about the price of fame and how difficult it can get as an artist.

Shoutout to @bfixedit_ / @toomanyfishb for her exhibition. Super honoured for myself and @theculturecrypt to be featured alongside legends.

MONEYSPREAD.

Thank you to @sofiaakel, @th5wra + @freebookscampaign for letting me host the 20th anniversary kidulthood movie discussion alongside @candicec_w @drjoywhite and film stars @amlameenbaby and @femioyeniran 🍿

@christiancassiel @drjoywhite @mrhaast and I had a great conversation at Who Shapes Our Cities? at the Barbican back in July.

Facilitated by @mrhaast the discussion moved through four ways of thinking about the city: the recorded city, the imagined city, the built city and the future city. Thank you to everyone that pulled up!

It left me thinking about some big questions: Who gets to document our cities? Whose ideas are given space? Who has the power to shape the places we live in? And how can architecture, culture and collective action help us imagine different futures?

One of the reasons I started writing, and more recently making videos and other content, is to create more space for a wider range of voices to shape the canon of architecture and the built environment. It’s not just about who gets to do the work, but who gets to speak about it, interpret it and shape the conversation around it.

Shoutout to @tobikyere and the wider team for the powerful programme.

When I’m not pulling on Bars I try to pull on threads that lets us reimagine the places and cities we call home. Truly grateful to facilitated this conversation with legends @christiancassiel @drjoywhite @_shawn_adams_

Who shapes our cities @barbicancentre as part of A project a Black Planet programme curated by @tobikyere

We spoke about the cites of sites of imagination and what allows does sites to grow and what barriers may exist and so much more. I am constantly noticing the now and our contemporary times magic is being made everyday across the content. It’s a special time and I am excited how we can gather around this provocations and build on the legendary thoughts that came before us

Project a Black Planet public programme - dun.

Wow wow wow. How do I begin to try to explain the whirlwind of these last 7 months? 15 events across 6 weeks, 70+ artists, doers, cultural workers, knowledge producers and heritage custodians, gatherings on futures and grief and love and reckoning and responsibility and collectivity, returning audiences that became friends, countless hugs and belly laughs and thank you’s. It’s been the honour of a lifetime to work and think and create alongside these incredible artists and to hold and be held by audiences through this experience. Thank you to everyone who came to 1 or 2 or 3 of these events. Words can’t explain the gratitude I feel in the trust people put into creating this space with us.
