Dr. Lexi Lain, gut health expert, joined me in the kitchen today to make stuffed portobello mushroom caps with black beans. A protein-rich, super flavorful meal packed with clean fuel.

Here is how we made it:

Step 1: Drizzle mushroom caps with oil.
Step 2: Sauté carrots, celery, zucchini, and black beans in a skillet. Add 1/4 cup vegetable broth, then season with cumin, dried ginger powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
Step 3: Purée and blend the sautéed mixture, then spoon it generously into the mushroom caps.
Step 4: Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Step 5: Garnish with sliced avocado, fresh tomatoes, and microgreens before serving.

Simple, honest food made from scratch with good company.

Who is trying this for lunch or dinner this week? 🌿

I have baked pumpkin bread for 40 years.

I made these mini loaves for my kids when they were little, with 12 grain flour from @azurestandard Standard and sold them at the farmers market for years. Today I’m using using 9 grain flour by Pure Original Ingredients, London, UT.

Simple nourishment shared at home anchors the family. 🍃

Saturday salsa in the kitchen with @drlexilain Lexi!
Nothing beats fresh, vibrant salsa made straight from whole ingredients:
• Heirloom tomatoes
• 1/2 hot pepper
• 1 medium yellow onion
• Fresh cilantro (or parsley)
• Fresh lime juice
• Rumi Southwest chill spice blend
Just pulse in the food processor or chop by hand to the texture you love.
Kitchen tip: wash up with @onionhands afterward to remove onion and pepper oils. It works like magic and is a true staple for any cook’s kitchen!
We keep this fresh in the fridge and eat it daily for health and happiness.
Do you like your salsa smooth or chunky?

Dr. Lexi and I went to Morrow Mountain on Saturday with 6 other women for our monthly Spark Society hike.
It was a moderate trail, but what made it magical was the ground beneath us. It was covered in quartz that shone through almost the whole way.
Walking on uneven natural terrain does something powerful for your body.
Stepping across rocks and roots requires constant micro-adjustments, which builds balance and lights up brain health as your nervous system maps every step in real time.
At the same time, walking under the pines and cedars means breathing in natural airborne compounds called phytoncides. Trees release them for their own protection, and when we breathe them in, cortisol drops, the nervous system downshifts, and the body produces more natural killer cells that support immune health.
Botanical chemistry has always been nature’s living medicine. Stepping outside brings our body and mind right back into right relationship.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons to get creative in the
kitchen.
Dr. Lexi and I made stuffed spaghetti squash, an easy, colorful, and delicious way to celebrate fall gourds.
Here is how we did it:
1. Bake the spaghetti squash until tender and scrape out the inside strands.
2. Mix the squash with black beans for plant-based protein (ground turkey works great too if you aren’t vegan).
3. Restuff the shells with sautéed green peppers and black beans, seasoned with fresh basil.
4. Top with sliced tomatoes for color and bake until warmed through.
The best part? You can use whatever veggies you have on hand. Sautéed carrots, Brussels sprouts, garlic, or spinach all work beautifully.
A complete, nourishing meal that is naturally gluten-free, low-calorie, and full of fiber.
What is your favorite fall veggie to cook with right now? Y

Essene crackers have been around since ancient times, when they were simply baked on stones under the sun.
Dr. Lexi and I spent some time in the kitchen making a modern batch in the dehydrator. It is one of my favorite, most practical ways to get daily vegetables in with all the live enzymes, fiber, and nutrients intact.
Here is the base recipe:
• Celery, onion, fresh parsley, tomatoes, salsa
• Sprouted and dried flax and chia seeds
• A pinch of sea salt (or your favorite herbs and spices)
Blend, spread thin, and dehydrate at low heat so the living nutrients stay active. They are crisp, flavorful, and nourish your body naturally.
Practical peace starts with what we pour into our bodies. When we feed our cells living food, energy and clarity follow.

@drlexilain Lexi Lain turned meal prep into something I actually look forward to.

One hour. A vegetable dish, a salad, a protein. Five meals ready for the week. But the real thing she changed was doing it together, with other busy women, cooking and talking and learning about each ingredients health impact.

Lilly sat on a chair and watched us the entire time through the laptop camera. Quality control, apparently🐾🐾

I walked away with a full fridge and a full tank. That combo is rare.

Tag someone who’d love to join #sparksociety and get a class like this once a month. Health is wealth.

1,000,000 steps. But that’s not really the milestone.

Last year, Lyme disease reminded me of something I’d spent my career teaching:

Prevention-first.

I finally had more margin in my life. The question was: would I have the energy to enjoy it?

Then @drlexilain came into my inner circle via @charlottebraintrust_

Small steps. Accountability. Better food. Walking. Recovery. Consistency.

And something else became clear:

The people closest to us are one of the greatest investments we make.

The right doctor. Coach. Friend. Hire. Advisor. Investor. Peer group.

They can multiply our capacity—or diminish it.

Today, my biological-age test estimates me 12 years younger than my chronological age, and I’ve crossed one million steps this year.

But the number isn’t the lesson.

Choose your people carefully.
Practice prevention early.
Take the next step.

The returns compound. 💕

Chocolate Mousse Saturday

Who says healthy can’t taste like heaven?

Dr. Lexi and I just whipped up the most incredible chocolate mousse in my kitchen. Rich. Creamy. Decadent. And packed with protein.

This isn’t your typical health food sacrifice. This is the kind of dessert you’d find in a French bistro — except it’s actually fueling your body.

No refined sugar. No guilt. Just pure chocolate bliss that happens to be good for you.

The secret? Avocado’s, dark cocoa, bananas, chocolate protein powder (optional), cinnamon, pure vanilla. Berries for garnish. Five minutes. One blender. That’s it.

I served it to Jim without telling him what was in it. His exact words: “This is better than what we had in that french restaurant you love.”

Practical peace looks like this: finding ways to nourish yourself that feel like indulgence, not deprivation.

Save this for when you need proof that taking care of yourself can taste this good.

What’s your favorite healthy swap that doesn’t feel like a compromise? Comment ‘recipe’ and I’ll share.
