It takes a village... and mine is incredible 🥺

Earlier this week, I had the absolute privilege of being invited back to the prestigious House of Commons to celebrate the Dental Wellness Trust, an incredible organisation that has supported children across the UK and South Africa for over 15 years.

I was so honoured to be considered, but my attendance truly wouldn’t have been possible without the beautiful and generous @drmaggieuk ! From the very beginning of my journey, she has been a shining light. I remember the first time we met. She told me she saw a superstar in me and that one day it would be evident to everyone else, too. It is so rare to have someone you’ve just met speak life and positivity into you so quickly. 🥹🫶🏾

I also want to send a massive thank you to the Dental Wellness Trust team, especially Dr. @lindagreenwall MBE. She has poured into me ever since I won the first WDN competition, constantly looking out for me and making sure I’m in the room.

To hear “Dr. Temi Esho” highlighted by name as one of just a select few honoured in a room of hundreds was an unforgettable professional milestone.

It was wonderful connecting with such established, inspirational leaders who share the vision for better paediatric oral health. I am so excited for what the future holds and look forward to hearing more from the @dentalwellnesstrust ! 🦷🌍💜

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬?

Let’s break it down 👇🏼👇🏼

General dentists, are experts in maintaining oral health and often offer a range of services including aligner treatments. Orthodontists are dental specialists who focus exclusively on tooth movement, bite correction, jaw development, and facial balance after several additional years of specialist training.

A referral to an orthodontist may be recommended when a dentist notices:

• Crowding
• Protruding teeth
• Bite problems
• Impacted teeth
• Jaw discrepancies
• Concerns with growth and development

Orthodontic treatment is about far more than straight teeth. We assess function, aesthetics, long-term stability, and how the teeth and jaws work together as a whole.

Many cases benefit from specialist planning, particularly when treatment involves impacted teeth, complex bite correction, growth modification, or multidisciplinary care with other dental specialists.

A referral doesn’t mean something is “wrong”. It means your dentist wants you to have the most appropriate expert assessment and the best possible long-term outcome.

That’s collaborative patient care at its best. We are fortunate to work alongside some great dentists, fellow specialists and fellow orthodontists that recognise the need for collaborative care.

📩 Dentist referrals welcome
