Following the huge success of The EmpowerHer conference on World Menopause Day we spoke about periods, PMS , PMDD , PMOS, endometriosis, fertility and of course perimenopause and menopause.

We discussed the difference between body identical hormones and synthetic hormones and the very different responses without our bodies to both.

We discussed not only the physical challenges we women face when we experience hormonal imbalances but also the impact on our mental health and how generations of women before us were dismissed and were unheard and suffered so much.

Let’s change the future for ourselves and for our daughters, nieces and all the future generations so no other woman needs to suffer again and can get access to bio identical hormones to transform their health.

What an honour to share the stage at Empower Her with Prof Mary Ryan @drmaryryan, Oonagh O’Hagan @oonaghohag, Dr Louise Newson @menopause_doctor, Aoife Ní Eochaidh @pelvicexpert Prof Siobhan O’Mahony @profsiobhainomahony and Dr Daniel Jones @danieljphd Gut health, pelvic health, inflammation, hormones, and my piece of the puzzle: what goes on your plate…

Mary asked me to lead with constipation, because it is SO common in menopause and so rarely talked about. Then she kept the questions coming, so we covered protein, eating in colour and more. Just real talk with a room full of women.

Was it daunting? Absolutely. Standing up in front of 450 women, flanked by a panel of medical experts, is a challenging place to be. But doing brave things in midlife is so empowering. And I genuinely believe that when you nourish your body well, you start thinking in opportunities instead of excuses, and stepping out of your comfort zone gets that little bit easier.

A real highlight was meeting Dr Louise Newson, the star of this year’s event and listening to her presentation on hormones - so so good ( & funny! Chicken crisps was the word of the day!😜)

To Mary, Oonagh, Julie, Aoife and Jennifer, our Empower Her family since the very first event!Thank you for the continued inspiration you are all amazing ❤️

Kay & I loved Empower Conference yesterday! Thank you everyone, one & all, who made it such an impactful day! Special thanks from Kay & I to my amazing two colleagues Dr Mary Ryan & Oonagh O’Hagan who organised it & brought us all together for it.
One thing that struck a cord with me is that 30% of Sepsis in women is Urosepsis, highlighted so well by our esteemed colleague and guest speaker Dr Louise Newson, fully training your pelvic floor along with vaginal oestrogen under the supervision of your GP or consultant is key to prevent UTI’s happening in the first place. Remember however, always seek medical advice for a UTI!

What an incredible day at Empower Her in the beautiful Royal Marine Hotel, Dún Laoghaire — a day dedicated to women’s health, menopause, knowledge and empowerment. ❤️

Huge congratulations to Oonagh O’Hagan and the team behind this wonderful event, and to Professor Mary Ryan for bringing together such an extraordinary panel of experts.

We heard from Dr Louise Newson, Professor Janice Walsh, Professor Siobhan O’Mahony, Professor John Nolan, Dr Brendan Foley, Dr Julie O’Brien, Dr Daniel Jones, Dr Sharon Dillon, Aoife Ní Eochaidh, Rachel Graham, Jennifer Earle and so many knowledgeable voices across hormones, HRT, heart health, breast health, gut microbiome, nutrition, inflammation, pelvic health, exercise, longevity and healthy ageing.

The overriding message was powerful:

Menopause is not something we simply endure. With knowledge, support and the right choices, we can understand our changing bodies and truly thrive.

I was delighted to be part of the day with At One, supporting an anti-inflammatory approach to health, and Symprove, supporting the gut microbiome — important pieces of the bigger picture of whole-body health through menopause and beyond.

A day filled with passion, science, connection and women supporting women.

Knowledge is power. Understanding our bodies is empowering. And our health deserves to be at the centre of the conversation. 🌸✨
