A little Monday motivation from our @NAWBORichmond community... which one hit you the most?

I was invited to bring meditation and stretch breaks into the middle of a business conference.

The @nawborichmond Summit started Thursday night with the Expo @theworkshopbytd where I caught up with familiar faces, met some new people, ate melt-in-your-mouth brownies from @thebakingagent_ and had some delicious charcuterie from @thelazygrazerva

Friday morning started with coffee from @eddierosecoffee before @drowilson11 kicked things off with a powerful keynote. Throughout the day, panels dug into marketing, visibility, accountability, and building businesses that are actually sustainable. One question in particular stood out: “What do I want to be known for?”

In between the speakers and panels, I led three mini meditation and stretch breaks, a few minutes to get out of our chairs, breathe, move, and reset. I’d never offered this at a conference before, so hearing from several women afterward that they really appreciated the intentional breaks made me feel pretty good. Maybe we need more of this at conferences.

Thank you, @tamishawilliamsconsulting , for inviting me to be part of the day and for absolutely rocking it as MC! I know how much work goes into an event like this, and the entire NAWBO Richmond team pulled off a good one. 💛

Now, excuse me. I have a long business development to-do list to take care of... 😂

So impressed with how this conference experience focused on the whole woman, not just the business-owner portion of ourselves. Thank you for a fantastic, inspiring event @nawborichmond !

What a way to wrap up summer and lock in for fall and winter. The NAWBO Richmond Summit & Expo was full of inspiration, connect, information, and resources.

From our keynote speaker Dr. Omega Wilson who inspired us to RISE and be visible, to hearing from a national NAWBO representative regarding advocacy, to forging new friendships, it will be one to remember.

Thank you to the event committee and its fearless leader/emcee Tamisha Williams, VP of Programming, for all of the hard work on logistics, food, beverages, and details big and small.

As your VP of Marketing, it was a pleasure gathering professionals on stage to talk about visibility in a post-covid era. So much has changed since then and it’s inevitable the way we communicate and share more about our businesses will continue to change. It’s critical we stay connected and support one another along the way.

What are you taking away and taking action on this week? Starting that monthly newsletter? Scheduling a coffee meeting with a potential referral partner? Posting more on social? Start small. Start somewhere.

P.S. If you dig the vibes, NAWBO Richmond hosts events all year long like this and many are free when you join. You can become a member now through October 31 and save $75 on membership! Learn more at nawborichmond.org.

P.P.S If you are looking for photos and videos from the event, look out for an email this week from info@nawborichmond.org with a link!

Why should you be in the room for NAWBO Richmond's Women's Empowerment Summit and Expo?

I attended the Expo & Summit last year, and this year I'm coming back as co-chair. 🙌🏾

Last year, the Expo gave me the chance to really get to know the wealth of women-owned businesses in our area, especially within our own NAWBO chapter. I found a few brands at that Expo that I still use to this day.

The Summit was energizing and insightful. I walked away with tools I still use on coaching calls, a to-do list to strengthen my own business, and a few simple, practical ways to boost my referral system.

This year, I'm excited for the sheer wealth of knowledge that will be in that room. 👇🏾

✨ Visibility Panel: We're going beyond the typical social media tips. People are craving breaks from their screens, so we need marketing that lives beyond the feed too.

✨ Business Sustainability Panel: I'm ready to think ahead and make my business Future Ready, even when I don't fully know what "next" looks like yet. Time to delegate and make sure my business has a plan, with or without me in every room.

✨ Advocacy Panel: I'm ready to understand what's actually happening for women business owners locally and nationally, and learn how to advocate for my business more intentionally.

✨ Personal Sustainability Fireside Chat: This one's a favorite. I already know my wellness impacts my business, but I'm always looking to deepen that practice.

✨ And we're thrilled to welcome Dr. Omega Wilson as our keynote speaker this year. 30+ years in leadership, from the classroom to the boardroom. 🎤

Because Women's Equality Day is today, tickets are $50 off through August 31 with code EQUALITY. If you're not a member of NAWBO, that means you get member pricing through Monday.

If you're a woman in business in the Richmond area, come be in the room with us. Tag a friend who needs to see this. 👇🏾

We're thrilled to announce Dr. Omega Wilson as our keynote speaker for the 2026 Women's Empowerment Summit!

Dr. Wilson's path took her from classroom teacher to principal to district-level executive before she built Innovative Strategies Consulting, LLC. Through it all, one belief has stuck: legacy isn't something you think about at the end of your career; it's something you build every day through the people you develop and the systems you create. She's bringing that philosophy to the stage with her talk "Lead for What's Next," and it's the perfect kickoff to a day all about being Future Ready.

Tickets are on sale now on Eventbrite. Link in bio--> @nawborichmond

More speakers dropping next week, so stay tuned.

The moment I walked into the 9th Annual Women’s Hats Off Event hosted by @drowilson11 , I knew I was stepping into something special, but I never expected to walk straight into the beautiful and legendary Vivica A. Fox!

What a full-circle, star-studded moment. Vivica has always been a star, and standing beside her reminded me that I am finally learning to recognize the light God placed inside of me too.

For so long, I dimmed my greatness, downplayed my gifts and put myself last, but not anymore. I am walking boldly in every gift, every talent and every ounce of favor God has given me. I will no longer deny my light just to make others comfortable.

And baby… the look was giving EVERYTHING!

I entered the room wearing a fabulous polka-dot dress and the most breathtaking, oversized black hat, and that hat made such a statement that even ✨Vivica @msvfox could not deny it! We took a beautiful picture together, and I will forever cherish this highlight moment.

This was more than fashion. This was confidence. This was purpose. This was a woman finally walking into the room knowing exactly who she is.

When God places greatness on your life, stop hiding it.

Walk in it.
Wear it.
Own it.
And let your light steal the room.

👒✨🖤

Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will.

The most powerful investment isn’t in buildings. It’s in PEOPLE.

This past Saturday, I had the honor of supporting my Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated 🔺Soror, Dr. Omega Wilson, at the 9th Annual Hats Off to Powerful Women’s Brunch. It was more than an event. It was a celebration of purpose, leadership, education, and the limitless potential of the next generation.

And what made it even more powerful 🔺Sorors came from across state lines to show up and show love. That’s what we do. We show up. We support our sisters. Always. ❤️

Congratulations to all of the 2026 Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Williams, Jr. & Lyllie B. Williams Scholarship recipients. Your dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have earned this incredible recognition. Continue to dream boldly, lead courageously, and make a lasting impact. Your future is bright.

Soror Dr. Wilson, thank you for your unwavering commitment to empowering students, strengthening our community, and creating opportunities that will change lives for generations to come. Your leadership is a testament to what is possible when vision meets service.

The strongest communities are built by people who choose to pour into others. Saturday was a beautiful reminder that legacy isn’t what we leave behind. It’s who we lift up along the way.

Here’s to an even greater 10th Annual Hats Off to Powerful Women’s Brunch!

🏆 Congratulations again to every scholarship recipient, every sponsor, every volunteer, and every leader who made this inspiring day possible.
