Cosmetologists see the scalp up close every day. Observation is your superpower. 💛

Cosmetology school builds the foundation, but hair loss was not a priority in the classroom, and many cosmetologists learned hair outside of school. When the foundation is missing, misinformation spreads fast. So what is there to believe?

S.T.R.A.N.D.™ is an education program that teaches cosmetologists directly from board-certified dermatologists. Topics include hair biology, scalp infections, scarring and non-scarring hair loss, medical treatment options, and how to work alongside a dermatologist. Cosmetologists who complete the workshop become S.T.R.A.N.D.™ Certified. It was founded by Senior Cosmetologist Susan L. Peterkin and Board Certified Dermatologist Chesahna Kindred, MD, MBA, FAAD.

A dermatologist @drrawnbosley called out my whole profession on the internet, so naturally I had to respond 😅 because it’s really your own people sometimes.

He’s right about one thing: compounded prescriptions are underrated for acne — especially when post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the real enemy. If your acne is gone but the dark marks won’t quit, ask your derm whether a compounded treatment could simplify your routine. Prescription-only, 12–16 weeks of patience required, no miracles overnight.
