🌙 “Your Child Does Not Have Time to Grow Out of Sleep Apnea.” Dr. Rob Bryan on Children’s Airway Health. 🌙

Dr. Rob Bryan says there is too much at stake, and that the consequences of living that way are, honestly, irreversible. His message to parents is just to not wait. At the very least, he says, get an opinion from a couple of different people.

Dr. Dar Radfar closed the conversation by explaining why he now practices only four to five days a month. He loves speaking about this work, and the more he shares it with dentists around the world, he says, the more they can add years, save marriages, and improve the quality of life of their patients.

Have you talked to your child’s dentist about their sleep? Drop a 👇 and share this with a parent who needs to hear it.

🦷 "If You Want to Change Your Practice, Change It." Dr. Rob Bryan on Insurance Participation. 🦷

Dr. Rob Bryan says he's tired of hearing dentists talk as if they have no control over their practice. Being in network with insurance companies and accepting discounted fees on procedures is a choice, he says, and no one is forcing it on you.

His advice: drop plans and set your fees appropriately, so you can make a profit on the procedures you're trained to do and provide for your patients. He says there's nothing wrong with that, even though not participating in insurance plans sometimes gets demonized.

Do you choose which plans you're in, or did it just happen? Drop a 👇.

🏥 "Sometimes I'll Have a Patient Whose Insurance Just Does Not Want to Play Ball." Dr. Rob Bryan on Using Ambulatory Surgery Centers. 🏥

I asked Dr. Rob Bryan for his thoughts on an in-between location for these patients, and he says he takes advantage of it himself. He does quite a bit of corrective jaw surgery, and one of his offices is literally across the street from a hospital, so the vast majority of those patients are treated there.

But sometimes a patient's insurance just doesn't want to play ball. In that case, he says you can go to an outpatient surgery center, an ambulatory surgery center, where the patient can get a more favorable financial package and there are fewer question marks.

Do you use ambulatory surgery centers for your patients? Drop a 👇.

😮💨 "You Can Look at Someone and Think, I'm Sure This Person Has Sleep Apnea. And They Say, No, I'm Fine, I Sleep Great." Dr. Rob Bryan on the Signs Patients Miss. 😮💨

Dr. Rob Bryan shares something he sees constantly: patients who clearly show signs of sleep apnea insist they sleep fine, until he asks how they actually feel when they wake up. That's when the real answer comes out, not so great.

He points out that sleep-disordered breathing shows up in body types people would never expect, and it's far more common than most realize. Meanwhile, patients are chasing their tails looking for a diagnosis for why they feel awful every day: arrhythmias, fatigue, depression and anxiety, hypertension, acid reflux, type 2 diabetes, trouble concentrating. On the pediatric side, he says undiagnosed or misdiagnosed sleep-disordered breathing in kids often leads to prescription after prescription instead of addressing the real issue.

Have you ever had a patient insist they "sleep fine" when the signs said otherwise? Drop a 👇.

$😬 "I Hardly Even Touched It, and Crack, Mandible Fracture." Dr. Rob Bryan's Honest Wisdom Tooth Story. 😬 Dr. Rob Bryan shares a genuinely humbling story. A patient he'd treated ten years earlier for orthodontics, extracting her maxillary canines to help fix severe crowding, came back a decade later with a partially erupted lower wisdom tooth and a cavity on the adjacent molar. His plan seemed straightforward: extract the molar first, then the wisdom tooth would have room to come out easily behind it. But while sectioning the wisdom tooth, with barely any force applied, the mandible fractured. His second mandible fracture in his career. He stabilized it with an anterior border wire and sent her on her way. I add my own honest reflection from early in my career: in my first ten years extracting wisdom teeth, I didn't understand anatomy as well as I thought I did, something I say knocking on wood, genuinely grateful nothing worse happened. Have you ever had a routine case turn into something you didn't expect?
