A good boot shape starts here.

The leather stiffener is one of the key parts in shaping a boot. I usually start with 3–4 mm veg-tanned leather, then split it down to remove the loose flesh side using a leather splitter from @druckel.tools

The right leather, thickness, glue mixture, and hand-lasting technique all make a difference. When everything comes together, the stiffener follows the shoelast beautifully and helps create that clean, full shape.

This is how we do it at Onderhoud Handmade.

Definitely a different choice of leathers that made this piece special. The final touch before Labuta leaves the workshop.
.
A layer of wax to nourish the leather, deepen its character, and bring out that final finish.
.
Every piece is made by hand, and the last step is no different. Available on my Etsy shop (link in bio) or via DM here on Instagram.

Clean craftsmanship is all about the details. 🖤✨

From setting snap buttons & Sam Browne studs to creating that perfectly finished look — a manual press machine helps bring precision, consistency, and a clean finish to every leather article.

No shortcuts. No mass production.
Just handcrafted leather, precise work, and attention to every little detail. 🔨🧵

This is what clean craftsmanship looks like.

A piece of leather,
split down to the thickness we need.

Just leather, a machine,
and a little pull.

What's the best sound in your woodshop?

Because this is the best sound in my leather shop.

Best thing about this skiver from @druckel.tools is the easy blade change. And it uses pretty standard olfa style blades which means you don't have to send it out for sharpening. Just swap that sucker out and you're ready to go.
