A case I’m really proud of. ❤️ Whenever I’m feeling down, or frustrated, or overwhelmed… I look back at some of my cases that I’m the most proud of. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true. If you’re not already taking pictures of your work, START. You might look at your work and think “huh, I’m actually better than I thought I was”.
OR the complete opposite could happen 🤣 — photography is humbling. You might look at your work and think, I could have done X/Y/Z better… or I should have used a different material… or I should have used a different color… or made this a different shape. And that’s okay too — that means you’re THINKING critically. That means you give a shit!!! That’s the most important part. It means you still care.

But even if you critique yourself (which is a good thing btw) I think you will be pleasantly surprised that you’re better than you think you are.

This is one of my lovely dental hygienists, @kaylaantunaramos. I completed 8 composite veneers on her upper teeth, to make her teeth slightly bigger and create more volume in her smile. I submitted this case for my @theaacd accreditation and it PASSED. I cried 🥹. This case took me so MANY hours of doing the composite artistry — BACKBREAKING work, taking photos, evaluating, bringing the patient back in for revisions, taking photos, evaluating, bringing the patient back in….

I posted about composite veneers several months ago and had MANY dentists comment very rude things… “no patient would ever want to sit for that long”, “composite breaks”, or the best one — “you don’t know what you’re doing if you’re taking that long” (LOL)

But some patients DO want to sit for that long, because they realize it’s a craft. And composite DOESN’T always break, if you know how to manage occlusion (@adamoelvis posted a great post about this).

TLDR — critique yourself. But also congratulate yourself ever once in a while. And tune out the noise. There will be haters, people who don’t understand…. But there will also be a lot of camaraderie, if you have the right friends ❤️
