My favorite Albums of July 2026

July 2026 was an absolute monster of a month for new metal music considering the usual summer release slump. From crushing death metal and atmospheric black metal to dark goth rock waves, the releases in July delivered non-stop heat.

Here are my personal favorite records from July 2026 that have to be on your radar:

MY ALBUM OF THE MONTH:

@jehovahondeath – Lágrimas de Oro
This occult gothic rock album still has me addicted with multiple songs like Catherine Wheel, Suspiria or Blood Madonna being stuck in my head all the time. The sinister vibe combined with the outstanding performances and super catchy songs make me return to this one on a regular basis. It’s so fun!

STANDOUT HIGHLIGHTS:

@drywedding – The Back of Beyond
A creative and fairly unique genre mix of post-punk, gothic country and a bit of doom. The baritone vocals and imaginative lyrics make it an even more interesting listen.

@sallowmoth – Hydrophilous Brood
Wildly inventive, unpredictable death metal that pushes boundaries with dizzying riffing, sci-fi flair and relentless technical creativity.

@rezzzn – Cycles in the Infinite Dream
A heavy, hypnotic journey through psychedelic doom and sludge, wrapping crushing fuzz and lush sax passages into a cosmic soundscape.

@finsterforst_official – Still
This long-awaited return merges melancholic atmospheres with pulverizing riffage, haunting folk instrumentation and an unexpected NDW-inspired edge.

@cairiss_band – Wilderness
An emotional powerhouse of post-black metal and shoegaze, seamlessly balancing abrasive aggression with ethereal, cathartic melodies.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED AS WELL:

Do not sleep on these very solid releases:

@infernoczbm – The Anthropic Sophisms

@movrir – Nous, Le Venin

@aenigmatum_pdx – Infinitude’s Passage

@psycroptic_official – The Pulse Of Annihilation

@intodarkness_official – Route to the Other Side

@ripper.chile – Towards Rebirth

@left_to_die_official – Initium Mortis

Torpor – Đungeon Đescent

@hoursofworship – Resignation

@protestthehero – Within

About to crack open three awesome albums from @vesperian.world (Forsmán, Polymoon, and Dry Wedding). All awesome, but they're gonna sound way better on the big speakers with the CD player. Soundtracks to a rainy day full of podcast editing, cleaning, and probably eating some snacks.

A whole slew of exciting new releases in the dark music underground, including a few I’ve been anticipating since basically the beginning of the year. If you like goth, darkwave, post-punk, industrial, new wave, and anything on the fringes of those genres, you might find something here you enjoy. Do not laugh at my adjectives in these descriptions. If you laugh at my adjectives I will cry. They are my large adult sons. #goth #gothmusic #darkwave #industrialmusic #postpunk

MY FAVORITE RELEASES: JULY 17th – JULY 31st

Here are 9 great releases from the second half of July that deserve a spot in your heavy rotation:

@jehovahondeath – Lágrimas de Oro
Probably my standout highlight of July. Retro occult heavy rock wrapped in dark Spanish Catholicism aesthetics. Addictive hooks and catchy 70s-inspired guitar work meet mysterious, ritualistic vibes.

@drywedding – The Back of Beyond
An explosive blend of noisy post-hardcore and gritty sludge. Aggressive, emotionally raw, and delightfully unpredictable from start to finish.

Torpor – Đungeon Đescent
Epic heavy metal with blast beats and occasional tremolo riffs, with solid songwriting and great vocals – yes, please. This is so much fun!

@infernoczbm – The Anthropic Sophisms
Black metal madness at its finest. Highly complex, dissonant, and completely overwhelming in its sheer intensity and cosmic dread.

@cairiss_band – Wilderness
Stunning post-black metal featuring ethereal clean vocals seamlessly blended with ferocious, atmospheric outbursts. Beautifully tragic and captivating.

@finsterforst_official – Still
A massive comeback from the Black Forest pagan/black metal outfit. Epic, dark soundscapes packed with crushing riffs, NDW-inspired elements, folky instrumentation and towering song structures.

@sallowmoth – Hydrophilous Brood
Uniquely weird and incredibly brutal death metal. Mind-bending solos, technical drumming, and captivating sci-fi themes wrapped in chaotic arrangements.

@aenigmatum_pdx – Infinitude’s Passage
Mind-bending progressive death metal. Blistering speed, intricate guitar work, and complex rhythm shifts that keep you on edge.

@rezzzn – Cycles in the Infinite Dream
Hypnotic heavy psych-doom. Massive fuzz pedals meet lush synth landscapes, weaving together for a deeply immersive, cosmic trip.

Which of these records hit you the hardest? Let me know in the comments!

Let's kick off the week with a fantastic recommendation: The Back of Beyond by Dry Wedding, from Portland, Oregon. It's their third studio album and was released less than a month ago via Vesperian GmbH. Dry Wedding has solidified a unique and dark sound on this album, one that sits at the intersection of several niche genres, such as gothic country, post-punk, noise rock, and even hints of black and doom metal. It's a fabulous album you should check out ASAP! 🖤🔥
To combat the 38ºC in the shadow, I also have a refreshing NEIPA from La Débauche. Mondays like this are perfect. Have a great week, my dears! 😋🍻❤️
