BREAKING: Portland tenants win $3.6 million settlement with Geoffrey Rice / Apartment Mart.

After years of organizing, the Trelawny Tenants Union has reached a monumental settlement to resolve violations of Portland’s rent control. Proceeds will reimburse present/past tenants for overcharges, compensate the union for costs, and pay a substantial fine to the City of Portland.

All rents at all of Rice’s properties will be rolled back to the price they were in December 2022.

We want to make sure every tenant gets their money. If you are an affected tenant, fill out the form on our website at the link in our bio so we can make sure they get your refund right.

Wins like this aren’t possible without organizing. We need your help to keep up this momentum. Follow us and join the union to help us get more money back in tenants’ pockets.

“We can’t eat road salt.” Troy Jackson cuts straight through Susan Collins’ spin.

After backing Trump’s agenda, Collins wants credit for a tariff exemption while working families are still paying the price. A few crumbs of relief don’t erase her complicity.

You can’t have it both ways, Susan. Maine deserves a fighter, not excuses.

Early voting starts today! With the attacks on our democracy, it is so important that we all use our right to vote this year. And that we vote EARLY! I hope you will consider ranking me, Michael Todd Chretien, # 1 on your ballot for District 5 Portland City Council.

If there are any specific policy questions you have that would help me earn your vote, please send me a message! I’d love to chat with you!

Thanks to everyone who came out to our BIG ASS DSA canvass yesterday. We knocked over 300 doors and had some great conversations with neighbors about making our city safer and more affordable. Our next canvasses are Mondays at 5 and Saturdays at 11 until Election Day.

Since July, I have knocked over 2,500 doors myself and almost 4,000 total with volunteers. It’s my goal to knock on as many of your doors as possible so I can really get an understanding of the issues we’re all facing and how we can fix those problems. I know that mailers and yard signs don’t win elections (and they shouldn’t). Not only do I want to earn your vote to be your next District 5 Portland City Councilor, but I want to actually know my neighbors, too. Hope to see you at your door!
