I talk a lot about opening the windows, and @hough9459 opened MoKa Gallery! 🙌🏾

Last night’s “Kings of the Hill” exhibition brought great art, great food, and great vibes right here to the Hill District. The artist talk was powerful—a conversation about what it means to be a Black artist, representing yourself and your community while honoring the great Hill District artists who came before you.

Much love to @hough9459 @darnellchambersart @larry_artistry @romii_link @dskinsel for an evening rooted in creativity, community, and legacy. 🖤🎨

During the PA Cultural Exchange opening weekend - #PaXfellows visited @riversofsteel Carrie Furnace. As part of the site tour, each group had a chance to visit the @boom_concepts Black on Black Love collaborative mural.

The work has been up since ‘22 and is our longest running mural in the AP3 public art portfolio. It is a collaborative piece from 8 different artists and also features some great work from an artist who was one of the first folks to ever hit the Furnace - #iykyk

3 different PaX Fellows @reckless_bohemian @goodboygems and @dskinsel spoke on how they were involved in supporting the project. Thanks to the @pahumanities team for capturing the group photo.

This 8ft power painting from the #kinselcollection comes ready to hang and ready to go! A perfect painting for your office, lobby, or foyer.

I created this painting during my residency @emmanuelcollegeart @emmanuelcollege in ‘23. I was thinking about how 🧠 🦴 ♥️ exists outside of bodyforms and more as a “coat of arms”. Always with the intent to represent imagery around heritage and ancestry. It’s one of the larger pieces I’ve made in the 🧠 🦴 ♥️ collection of work - and was included in my ‘25 solo exhibition at @jamestownartscenter.

If you’re in Pittsburgh go on over to see it at @brewhousearts as part of the @the.futureisblk group exhibition Sovereign Ground. I’m thankful to @tacumba_jr and his team for providing a chance to show the work for the first time in Pittsburgh.

These works are inspired by long walks through the fields of Orquevaux, France, the ruins and fields of Philippi, Greece, and walks through Frick Park and across Pittsburgh with my family.

I’m thinking about how these places, across time and distance, hold memory, history, and movement.

@cmuschoolofart @jonrubinstudio and his MFA students recently came through @pennavenue412 to tour the neighborhood and learn more about arts and culture organizations that reside on the Avenue.

@boom_concepts was happy to host the group and share BOOM’s history, the longstanding work of @bloomgarcorp, and what’s happening with @rotundacollab. Our good artsy neighbor @shamir_shine also joined us to share more about his work with BOOM, and his practice.

We immersed SO much over this past weekend!

The PAX Fellows are comprised of 50 culture bearers, storytellers, artists and more chosen from 350 applicants across the state of Pennsylvania. Over the next 18 months, we’ll experience cultural exchange weekends throughout the region to deepen our humanities practice and understanding.

For our time in Pittsburgh, we opened up Thursday night at The Andy Warhol Museum. Friday morning, we toured Rivers of Steel: Carrie Blast Furnaces and got to participate in a metal tile workshop. Then we headed to the Hill District where we stopped by the New Granada Theater, acknowledged Freedom House, listened to Kenny Blake in front of where Crawford Grill once thrived, then wrapped up at The August Wilson House before having group dinners with some of our fellows (my first time at Apteka, and it did not disappoint!). Saturday, we were blessed with a centering ritual, heard from Pittsburgh fellows, and wrapped up in reflection at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center.

Our next immersion will be in the PA Wilds next May. I’m excited to be part of this inaugural class and hopefully help shape it to be even better for future fellows!

This video features just a snippet of Medina Jackson’s poem and was auto-captioned so might contain errors.

Sovereign Ground is an exhibition featuring Global Majority artists, exploring our ties to land, ancestors, and spirit, the small rituals that hold us, and the ways we make meaning on our own terms.

Get your self over to the opening reception happening this Thursday September 24th from 6p-9p at Brew House Arts Gallery 711 S 21st Street on the South Side.

I’m excited to have a 🧠 🦴 ♥️ piece on display in this group exhibition. When I saw the call for art it felt very connect to the work I’ve been making and sharing. Shout out to @tacumba_jr for his work in creating, curating, producing and leading all things @the.futureisblk.

I also realized during artwork drop off that it’s my first time displaying artwork at @brewhousearts - so that’s cool too.
