One year ago, we created this incredible project with a group of talented artists from metro Detroit. It was an honor to collaborate with such gifted people and bring something truly special to life—one that we’re still thinking about today.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes video showing just how hard everyone worked to make it possible. Cheers to these amazing artists, and we’re looking forward to the next project.

"bodyform v1"

Beyond the props that Brooke created for Josh and I, she also created a proof of concept painting, jumping from a reference image by Miko Marczuk that was recently in Vogue Portugal. That reference image reminded me of a sort-of pop art Matisse painting, as well as a self-portrait by Gertrude Käsebier that’s been living in my brain ever since I saw it in my book “Women Photographers.” Afterward, I realized the painting Brooke developed inched even closer to another interest of mine, one I’ll push further in v2, the skeletal bronze sculptures of Alberto Giacometti. Those Victor Wembanyama-esque artworks always catch my eye at museums, and I’d love to bring that idea of the spaghetti-fied corpus into reality with future iterations. That’s my favorite part of trying new ideas out, you see what you like and what can be built upon, and if projects and budgets allow, you can iterate on them until they become unmistakably and distinctly your own. In this v1, however, my main directive to Brooke was a body form that could be turned three different ways to evoke three different emotions: the upright posture that would allow Josh to mog anyone in a five mile radius, the on-the-back posture to give Josh the chance to fearfully be falling, and the hands-on-the-ground posture to imitate a childlike joy as if a kid were learning yoga for the first time.
