🐟 This net catches fish you can’t even see!

🌊 MLK net deployment in the Zanzibar Channel-Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Fish larvae may be tiny, but they hold valuable clues about fish reproduction, recruitment, and the future of our fisheries.

🔬 Sometimes, the smallest fish tell the biggest stories.

Did you know that many fish begin life almost invisible to the naked eye, fish smaller than a grain of rice?

Why it matters: Protecting nurseries = protecting food security.

Research Diary: Buyu, Zanzibar.

Idea Lab is two days for students from any Danish university who want to find out whether an idea could work. You can come with an idea, with a problem you keep noticing, or without either, bringing the skills to help someone else develop theirs.

You’ll work in a team, test the assumptions behind the idea and take it out for feedback from real people. By the end of the second day you’ll have a clear sense of what you would do next with it, if anything. You don’t need a business background or any experience with startups.

Idea Lab is on 10 and 11 November at CSE, Porcelænshaven 26, 2000 Frederiksberg.

The programme runs in English and is organised together with DTU, KU, Aalborg University and ITU, supported by Tuborgfondet and Otto Mønsted Fond.

Apply by 8 November via the link in bio.

🎉 We're excited to introduce one of IICD's newest members, Dr. Emilie Wedenborg!

Emilie is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Columbia University's Department of Statistics, in Dr. Bianca Dumitrascu’s group.

Her research combines machine learning, Bayesian statistics, and uncertainty quantification to develop interpretable models of complex biological systems.

Emilie earned her PhD in Data Science and AI from the Technical University of Denmark, where her research focused on representation learning and interpretable modeling.

How can we trust AI if we don't fully understand how it works? 🤖🧠

Last Friday, we met Magnus Harder, DARA PhD Fellow at DTU. Today, we're getting to know the researcher behind the mathematics!

Magnus explores how we can make AI more reliable by helping deep learning models better communicate when they're uncertain.

What drives him? A fascinating mystery: AI can produce remarkably good results, but we still don't fully understand why it works so well.

And one important lesson from his PhD journey? Keep it simple! Even when working with highly abstract mathematics, Magnus uses simple examples to make sure the theory stays connected to real-world applications.

He's also excited to exchange ideas and collaborate with researchers from different backgrounds in the DARA community. 💜

👉 Swipe through to discover what motivates Magnus, what he's learning, and how he hopes to make AI more trustworthy.

FELLOW FRIDAY | Meet Magnus Harder

What if AI could tell us not only what it predicts, but also how much we can trust its answer?

For DARA fellow and PhD researcher Magnus Harder, the key to that question lies in mathematics.

His research at DTU explores Bayesian deep learning and how we can better understand the complex mathematical models behind artificial intelligence.

Think of it this way: AI might give you a prediction that sounds convincing. But how do you know if it's right? And wouldn't it be useful if the model could also tell you when it's uncertain?

That's what Magnus is working to understand: how mathematics can help make AI models more reliable and better at measuring their own uncertainty. 🔬💻

🎥 Watch the video to meet Magnus, discover what sparked his fascination with mathematics, why he sees so much untapped potential in deep learning, and what being part of the DARA community means to him.

Meet our fellows. Discover their research. Follow their journey.

Right now NJORD aqua is in India.

Charlotte, Sara and Kanya, three master students from @dtudk ,are visiting locals in the Delhi and Lucknow area to map out the current water supply/cleaning systems used.

These photos are from visits to the densely populated ARD complex, gated communities in south Delhi and a shared household in Lajpat Nagar.

Through these visits, locals get to see NJORD aqua’s prototype and share their thoughts about it.

This is very relevant for getting the NJORD aqua water treatment technology out in the real world.

DanSTAR is ready to launch! 🚀

This weekend, the team successfully completed the long-duration burn required when we launch the rocket. The 4m long Parhelion rocket is designed to reach an altitude of 8 km before parachuting back down to Earth.

A parhelion is an optical phenomenon formed when sunlight interacts with ice crystals in the clouds. You may see one when the conditions are just right, and judging by our work this year, the conditions are right for one more.

Thank you to all of our members for the hours of work you have put in. DanSTAR is nothing without its members, and it's because of the time and effort given to the team that we are able to achieve these incredible milestones.
We would also like to thank our sponsors and advisors for their generosity and support ❤️

With the completion of these tests, the Parhelion rocket's testing campaign has come to a close. We can now officially say that DanSTAR's third rocket is ready to take off 🔥🚀

Keep an eye out on our social media channels for the Parhelion Rocket Reveal 10/10/2026
