Y’all thought we were joking about that Netflix documentary? 👀🍿

Well, Netflix hasn’t called us (yet), but we do have a little something from the archives. 😂🎬

Last year, we teamed up with @dukedivinity and @bigdoglittlebedproductions to share a little of our story, including how faith, family, and a whole lot of community love helped shape the vision for The Capital Market.

And the timing couldn’t be better!

Last Saturday, October 3, we joined @ipldmv for a conversation exploring the intersections of faith, environmental justice, and food justice.

That conversation brought us right back to the roots of our work.

Because some seeds were planted long before The Capital Market had a name. 🌱

For generations, Black churches have been more than places of worship. They’ve been places of refuge, organizing, education, and community transformation.

At Gethsemane United Methodist Church, we're building on that legacy by reimagining how 17 acres of land can nourish our neighbors, support local farmers, create opportunities for young people, and sustain our community for generations to come.

And for us, this work is deeply personal. It's rooted in the legacy of Sharon Drakeford (😇), whose love of gardening and connection to the land remind us that planting seeds is as much an act of faith as it is an investment in the future. ❤️

Our story has always been about food, faith in community, caring for creation, stewardship, self-determination, a little audacity, and a whole lot of love.

So, while we wait for Netflix to get their act together, grab your popcorn and enjoy a little look at the seeds that started it all. 🍿🎬

These films were created for the Thriving Congregations Coordination Program (https://thrivingcongregations.org), which is conducted by Leadership Education at Duke Divinity and funded by Lilly Endowment Inc.
