Professor for Environmental Intervention @ei__hfbk @hfbkhamburg

$Tomorrow, I’m in Hamburg for From Environment to Mitwelt, a symposium on eco-social world-shaping at HFBK Hamburg. (@ei__hfbk) The symposium starts from the idea that reality isn’t just an environment around us. It asks what a relational understanding of the “Mitwelt,” or a common world, could look like, one where ecological responsibility and social justice can’t be separated. How to Postpone the End of the World Sat 17 Oct, 17:30–18:30, Aula der HFBK Hamburg How to Postpone the End of the World is a sound intervention and rumination with Anne Duk Hee Jordan and Sasha Perera (Perera Elsewhere). We take our cue from the Indigenous thinker and activist Ailton Krenak, whose people live along the Rio Doce, a river poisoned in one of Brazil’s worst environmental disasters. For Krenak, “humanity” is an exclusive club that leaves out rivers, mountains, animals and most humans. The end of the world has already happened for many. Postponing it is a practice of those who kept living, telling stories, singing and dreaming. Sasha has put together a selection of songs and compositions to guide our thinking. They take us through Sylvia Wynter’s genres of the human, Saidiya Hartman’s “minor music at the end of the world,” and Malcolm Ferdinand’s double fracture. Along the way we listen to insects, bodies, rivers, plantations and the Black Atlantic. What would it take to move from environment to Mitwelt, a shared world we don’t stand outside of? Which worlds are ending, and which have always been here, waiting to be heard? Symposium 14:00–20:00 · free admission · German/English With Silke van Dyk, Folke Köbberling, Atelier LeBalto, Loraine Leeson, Katja Lonzeck, Tilman Walther, Sabine Zahn and others. Organized by Friedrich von Borries, Johanna Dehio, Anne Femmer, Jesko Fezer and Anne Duk Hee Jordan, Study Department Design.$
