In the studio we have explored how music and drawing interact with a course we ran led by viola player and graphic designer @lcwiola Lorena Cantó Woltèche. She teams up with pianist @yvaincalvo as Duo Fabulae. We will be drawing in the hall below our studio on Sunday afternoon as they play a programme of English music ranging from Dowland to Britten.

There will also be a short screening of a film by @rrrojasss made to accompany this musical programme. The music is inspired by English landscape as musicians (as well as artists eg. Ivon Hitchens, Paul Nash) looked to the natural world as a symbol of hope and restoration in a time of great destruction.

We are delighted that Duo Fabulae will perform for us, providing a chance to draw and respond to the rhythm, shape and mood of the music.

Workshop and Concert: DUO FABULAE @duofabulae
Sun, 10 Nov
2.30-5pm, £15
NB. LOCATION: Church Hall at 26 Exmouth Market (beneath the studio)

Materials included. More info and ticket link in bio.
Note: STUDENT/UNWAGED discount of 33%

Another look at the @bridge.proj from last year, made in collaboration with @duofabulae. These are snippets taken from the second movement.

Frank Bridge composed the sonata during WWI, and it was a pivotal piece for his musical style. An adamant lover of the rural landscapes, Bridge was deeply affected by the tragedies of the war. Many of his friends, pupils and colleagues were killed in action.

Filming meant we had to explore the ruins of Sussex, Bridge’s hometown. It led us to walk into ancient castles and forts, discover hidden windmills, explore lost ruins and discover beautiful places such as the Ouse Valley Viaduct and the Beachy Head Lighthouse. It was such a rewarding adventure filled with history and beauty.

A look back at the @bridge.proj that I worked on with @duofabulae last year.

It has been such a fun project that’s led me to explore the rural landscapes of Sussex, the life of Frank Bridge, and to experiment with macro watercolours!

These are some of my favourite images from the first movement. To watch the full film, follow the vimeo link in my bio.
