@familystylefest has identified itself as not another food festival… it spills beyond the show hours into the heartbeat of the city, embracing its culture fully… and the city embraces them right back bringing the same aura from LA (a couple weeks ago) to NYC 🗽 this weekend 📸 and ✍️ by Jeffrey Openheim (more on his Substack)

From Playboi Carti to projects with Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, and A$AP Rocky, Duong Nguyen has quietly become one of the defining hands behind modern hip-hop typography. Through gritty hand lettering, raw textures, and custom type treatments, his work gives album visuals a chaotic, instinctive energy that feels inseparable from the music itself. Based in Los Angeles, the Vietnamese designer first gained attention through early works connected to The Life of Pablo before gradually shaping visuals for a new generation of rap artists. Whether it’s a logo, tracklist, or full visual identity, Duong’s lettering always feels alive - rough, aggressive, imperfect, and constantly pushing toward something new. Speaking with GOAT, Duong shared that he often listens to an artist’s music first before designing, using the sound and emotion of the project to shape the lettering style itself. From sharp-edged typography to rough ink textures and distorted forms, his visuals are built to feel as expressive as the music they represent.
