The voice of @funtofuntofunto greets us as we enter the interzone of “Unit of Heart,” the title composition from Chantal Michelle’s upcoming LP. Their wordless hum, almost like a half-forgotten lullaby, appears close, then far, then cedes to poetry recitation: “This is where we buy fish, I mean this is where our mouths turn saliva into spears only a throat can recognize.”

Today we’re sharing an excerpt of this expansive piece, which also features @patrickshiroishi on saxophone. Michelle’s skill at presenting the familiar as preternatural comes to the fore as the work unfolds. Saliva into spears, fold into fold. Pads of downy synthesizer billow and are subsumed by a discordant ringing. What we think we know about the world, what is elemental, can change with even the slightest adjustment of the lens.

Find the track via the typical digital platforms, linked above, and pre-order the LP via Bandcamp. Unit of Heart is out November 6.

Michelle will be performing at Public Records in Brooklyn as a part of @durations.world on November 11, sharing a bill with William Basinski. Soon after, On November 18, she will be presenting Unit of Heart at @efluxbarlaika as a part of the Playback listening series.

“Vivid and quietly intense…on the surface, it’s placid, almost ambient sound but there’s discordance beneath the surface that Michelle brings out in time.” - Boomkat

We are honored to host a lineup of favorites as part of @durations.world in November. Unified by dichotomous, futurist perspectives, this lineup explores the uncanny; the tension between the familiar and the ominous.

@significantutha returns to Ballet, this time presenting his first live set via forthcoming audiovisual work, dimming the lights, and building a shadowy world of emotional resonance, fugue states, and rough sonics around us.

matanarobertsstudio nearly offers a reprieve, but reminds us to not rest easy. An internationally recognized saxophonist, her improvisatory pursuit has touched — and challenged — a host of mediums across American creative expression, exploring narrativity, history, and political structures.

A sound artist of her own accord, Klein’s veil of poetry, grime, R&B, and noise is singular, deeply inward, and somehow playful yet unruly. It’s a performance we have been waiting years to host, finally arriving at the right time.

In the final hour, @buttechn presents the US debut of “endless Xpire:” the live A/V piece combines raw electronics and recorded footage of the Mallorca eclipse into emotionally charged, club-adjacent work that is cathartic and reflective of the shared human experience.

Space is limited — tickets in bio.
