Art City Bologna saw the premiere of the new collaborative work Scent of Time, both as a 28-minute fiction film as well as a hybrid dance and moving image performance with Polina Hordiievska (@iampolyaaa__ ) structured around a floor piece designed by Camilo García A. (@jackrackjack) and featuring choreography by Dayana Mankovskaya @dayanaaaaam next to Polina’s improvisation. Scent of Time depicts the coming of age story of a young girl who learns to enter into the liminal realm, a mental space that seeks beyond the pervasive presence of value paradigms.

As part of the exhibition’s public program we also had the honor to present a performative talk alongside Lily Markaki (@dustbreeding) on “DARK ADVANCES: Cosmic Danger Music, ‘Affect Aliens’, and Revolutionary Despair”, and Anna Engelhardt (@engelhardt_dcc) with her talk “Hardwired Obsolescence of Russian Colonialism”, invited by Felice Moramarco (@felice_moramarco).

Thank you! ♡

In anticipation of the presentation of his film ‘Evidence of Things Unseen But Heard’ on the DEMO Moving Image Experimental Politics platform [22 November—18 December], Berlin-based filmmaker @louisthomashenderson presents a one-hour-long mix of music entirely from Bristol. Spanning 1980 (the year of the St. Paul's Uprising) to the present day, the mix tracks the Bristol Sound, from the bass of reggae sound systems to the broken beats of jungle to contemporary versions of dub and industrial. A musical journey through the city of Bristol.

Images from the 1980 St. Pauls riot that erupted after police raided the Black and White Café on Grosvenor Road, in the heart of St Pauls in Bristol. After several hours of disturbance in which fire engines and police cars were damaged, 130 people were arrested, 25 were taken to hospital, including 19 police and members of the press.

💚ISSUE III: CATALYST💚

Issue three is about things heating up, particles warming to move faster; changes of state, diversions, calls to action and creation. As a catalyst instigates a reaction, our writers unpick or present a vehicle for transformation or production, a pivot point or planted seed.

A catalyst is not comfortable, it is sharp: friction and spikes, things to cause a burn or swerve. From the fundamental fluidity and softness of self exposed by an accident, to an unlikely grouping of musicians and a broken instrument, a catalyst prompts a new movement. In life the presence of some emergency or another is a fixture, but what is unfixed is our response. In this issue we scatter catalysts to creativity and thought like tacks in the road and hope that we arrive together at a new junction.

Featuring writing by Calum Glendinning-Clark, Lilly Marks, Izak Mullen, Ailsa Sutcliffe, Paul Taylor, Kate Timney, and photographs by Adam Todhunter.

The publication “Love Spells & Rituals” is a documentation of a symposium held earlier this year, organised by @dustbreeding designed by @tonibrell

In an attempt to move from discourse to action, they have decided to employ this project as a means to raise funds in support of organisations safeguarding LGBTQI lives in the UK. All proceeds will be split between @africanrainbowfamily @mermaidsgender and @aktcharity

MEANINGS & SYMBOLISM
// ETYMOLOGY & MORE
Introduction and images selected by Writer, Researcher & Event Programmer @dustbreeding //
〰
"Flowers have to be the world’s most ancient gift. Flowers bear significance in all cultures, in all corners of the planet. With flowers we can say: I love you or I love myself; I am sorry, will you take me back? I miss you, and: make love not war. Colour, morphology and the hidden properties of flowers all play a role in imbuing each of them with a particular meaning. The images selected here are only a tiny offering towards an appreciation of the language of flowers; my choice often inspired by the essay at hand.”
〰
"There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance.
Pray you, love, remember.
And there is pansies, that’s for thoughts …
There’s fennel for you, and columbines.
There’s rue for you, and here’s some for me.
We may call it “herb of grace” o' Sundays.
Oh, you must wear your rue with a difference.
There’s a daisy. I would give you some violets,
But they withered all when my father died.”
Hamlet, Act IV, Scene 5
