Wild things we get to witness up here!!

Words to describe this hunt were tough to put into text.

The amount of life I’ve been fortunate enough to live over the last two years is hard to wrap my head around. The travel, the experiences, the people I’ve met, and the places I’ve been lucky enough to see. It’s humbling.

This was a hunt I had pretty much chalked up as something I’d never experience firsthand. But this new career and life path I’ve chosen continues to surprise me at every turn.

Dustin & Colbie of @ceaserlakeoutfitters sent my guide @toddhoward777 and me deep into the Yukon on a backpack grizzly hunt, far into some of the wildest country I’ve ever experienced. No human has stepped foot in this country in nearly a decade.

With a tag in my pocket, we set out looking for one of these giants.

The trip had everything you could ask for. Float planes, Argos, miles of backpacking, northern lights, and days spent glassing some of the last truly wild places on this planet.

After a few days of glassing in below freezing temps, snow, wind and unforgiving weather. We found bears, but they never seem to stop moving. A few attempts at trying to close the distance and bears vanishing, we finally got within range of this bear at 200 yards.

One well-placed shot, followed by two more well-placed shots on the move. “Shoot until it’s down” was running through my head. The bear crumpled not far from where it had been grazing on blueberries moments before.
Then came the 11.5-mile pack out back to the cabin, we arrived drenched by rain and with sore backs, but it’s a labor of love.

There’s a lot that goes into an experience like this, and the bear is only one part of it. The country, the adventure, the people, and the moments in between are what I’ll remember most. The notched tag is a big cherry on top.

I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by such good people and to have a life that keeps putting me in places I once thought I’d only ever see in a photo.

This one will hold a special place in the memory book forever.
A huge thanks to everyone involved in the hunt, and my support at home holding down the fort allowing me to disappear into the unknown for months at a time.
No one does life alone.
