The team took a 1 hour ferry ride from Tarifa, Spain -> Tangier, Morocco! This is part of our sustainable travel journey on our #albiontoatlas expedition, so instead of taking a flight from the UK to Morocco, we took trains and a boat to get to Morocco!

Phoebe, co-founder of the WeTwo Foundation says- “Travelling to Morocco from London by train and ferry not only helps dramatically cut our carbon emissions but also demonstrates to our young people - and the world - that proper adventures can begin right from your doorstep, and that sustainable travel gives us the chance to slow down, appreciate the distance, and really get to know the different cultures and languages on the way. I think all of our young people would agree that by reaching Africa slowly we appreciated the value of the journey rather than just the destination.”

Whilst we were on the Rewilding Spain Project visit, Yazz interviewed Soraya, our guide, to help you all find out more about the @rewilding_spain project. Our young people on this trip found it really interesting learning about how wild animals are being conserved & enjoyed asking Soraya questions about the different wildlife in the area. Thank you to Rewilding Spain for welcoming us!

On day 3 of our #AlbiontoAtlas trip we spent the afternoon at the @rewilding_spain project. We met Soraya who guided us round the area & explained the Rewilding Spain Project.

We learnt a lot about the project and the animals and got to see Prewalski’s horses, a very rare species to see! We also saw bison, including a one month old bison calf!

Finn said he found it interesting that the project was like an outdoor lab.

Roberta said she found it interesting learning about the hunting culture in Spain.

Yazz said she liked learning about how the animals change their behaviour depending on the weather

Thank you so much to @rewilding_spain for welcoming us!

We’re letting our young people who are on our #albiontoatlas expedition take over our socials!

It’s important to us that whilst our young people come on our expeditions that they learn many life skills, so we’re giving our young people the chance to write blogs & create social media content amongst many other opportunities to learn skills whilst on expedition! So stay tuned to see what our young people create & what they get up to! #plantingseedsnotflags

Last weekend 12 Squirrels, 20 Beavers, 33 Cubs, 25 Scouts, 11 Explorers (101 participants in total) from seven different Scout Groups across Lambeth and Lewisham took part in an Urban Hike Challenge. The Challenge covered three distances - 5km, 10km and 15km, with support from a huge team of Scout leadership volunteers, Explorers and parent volunteers.

All Sections were represented from Squirrels to Explorers which is amazing!!!

Some notable stories . . .
• A super young Squirrel from 4th Lewisham (Hither Green) completing the 5km which was his first Scout event and longest walk without a carry. 🥰
• An epic team of 7 and 8yo Cubs and Beavers from 1st New Cross successfully completing the 15km route. 💪🏻
• Some excellent map reading from unaccompanied Scout and Explorer Teams (1st New Cross, 32nd Deptford, 3rd Crofton Park).
• A team from 32nd Deptford including two Squirrels smashing the previous course record for the 5km and completing it in a time of 1hr 29min.
• 8th Lambeth Scouts narrowly taking the Scout course record for the 10km (beating the previous time by three minutes!).
• Two teams of very determined Cubs from 12th Lewisham North taking the whole event in their stride.
• No-one got lost and every single person managed to complete their chosen distance.

A MASSIVE thank you to Bex and her team of volunteers for organising the event - people like you make Scouting happen across our districts - you are amazing! ! !
