I tore my ACL and meniscus in high school, missing out on my senior year for soccer. I was devastated at the time given I lost out on any opportunities for college recruitment, but I committed myself to the rehab.

At 6 months, I was cleared to play by my orthopedic surgeon. I read everything I could find on nutrition and training to come by stronger. At my one year follow up, I proudly informed my doc how I had worked up to sets of 225 lbs on squats at 155 lbs bodyweight and my knee was getting stronger. He nearly jumped out of his chair. “225 lbs?! No, NO!! Running! That’s all you need to be doing!” I walked out more confused than ever. I was pain free, progressively overloading, and getting stronger.

Fast forward 19 years, here’s 606 lbs for a double at 210 lbs bodyweight. I chose not to listen to my doc because it intuitively didn’t make sense. The point isn’t that he was wrong (he may have very well been correct based on my anatomy, surgery, etc. and was looking out for my best interests). It’s that, given the majority of disease is both chronic and reversible, we need more docs who cross paths with lifting and nutrition. Docs who are able to provide more for (or at least appropriate direct) their patients beyond “exercise more, eat better.”

Anyway, pretty cool PR given my personal best is 617 lbs so we’ll see where singles go in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the spot fellas 👊

Mask up and walk it down.

Good ending to week 4. Came in and made adjustments to the day. Felt a little tired. Executed and got it done. Rest up, run it back. Not bad after pulls.

I don’t really do weekly totals, since the barbell is not really the heavy priority during training. Be that as it may, still hit my previous best total in the gym.

About 20 weeks of volume so I think it’s time we pulled it down and see where we are. A win for the village. Blessed to be here. 💎
