Behind the Scenes

Behind the scenes of the commercial set we built for a Hudson’s Bay commercial. This commercial had 3 inter-connected rooms for the actor to walk through. Love working on commercial sets since each one has its own unique elements!

Behind the scenes by @jaidenjackson_ it’s kind of like a commercial for making commercials, plus you get to see blizzards in August, Ben sashaying and DT doing another world-class chair sit

October 2021 @olg.ca @publicisgroupe @iq.productions @alon_isocianu

This was my first collaboration in a number of years with my friend @alon_isocianu and it lived up to his reputation for epic and creative set pieces combined with meticulous planning. Alon and I collaborated throughout the design process to create photorealistic set renders and shot animations weeks before the shoot dates. This process allows clients to see exactly what they will be getting on the day, streamlining production and ensuring client expectations are exceeded! This is the future of commercial production design.

Working with @olg.ca and @alon_isocianu is always great - they love going big with creative, experimental set design. We worked with @mossleddotcom and @lafrancedesign to build an underlit stage surrounded by hundreds of feet of LEDs, a massive 10’ tall ring light, a broadway style light marquee, and a glowing acrobatics ring! We shot this in a massive soundstage and @vborrisondp used the void of darkness to isolate our set elements along with stunning lighting by Todd Hamacher.

Thank you to everyone who brought their skill and work ethic to this job. It wasn’t easy and we had some long days, but we definitely learned tons (especially about integrated LEDs) and pulled off one of the most spectacular commercials of the year!

September 2021 @skipthedishes @mccanncanada @perlorian @softcitizenx

It was a professional achievement of mine to work with the @perlorian brothers since I first saw their work. They combine a fantastical and absurdist vision with finely tuned technical filmmaking. keeping a preference for practical fx and set pieces results in beautiful, engaging films from filmmakers at the peak of their craft.

Our team was challenged across the board on this film. We designed and built a custom couch that pulled out into a product display table with a Skip the Dishes order already placed. It had to look homemade, it had to work every time for multiple takes and it had to be simple to operate. That was a tough one. There were 3 spots in this contract with multiple locations, lots of different sets, day and night shoots, etc, etc.

Bringing the @perlorian brothers' vision to life was a dream come true for me. Thank you to @softcitizenx for the opportunity and to my team for bringing the talent and effort we needed to get the job done. I can’t wait for the next one! 🤘

June 2021 @planetfitness @robjacklin Big Sky Film Production @barkleyus

Xrystal with an “x”! How do you design the world of an unbearable “fitfluencer”? Neons of your own name? Check. Weighted cell phone cases? Check. Self branded water bottles and ring lights? Check! Pink everywhere? Of course! As a creative exercise, it’s always wonderful when the production design is leveraged to show our characters personality. Through production design, the audience immediately and intuitively knows who Xrystal is, with limited need for exposition. Thanks to our directors, @hellogilberto and Jordan Briendel, and Big Sky Film Productions for letting us flex some muscle with this one!

Like always, a big thank you to our art team. There is an astronomical amount of work that goes into a spot like this and our team's dedication and work ethic is unmatched.
